The mattress was way old, the room smelled like bleach, the TV didn't get a good picture, nobody picked up the phone. No glassware in the room (just paper cups...really?).
It reminded me of a Days Inn in Kansas...maybe a little better, but with smaller rooms. Of course in Manhattan the rooms are always small. But if they're lovely and well maintained then it doesn't really matter. I didn't sleep well at all.
Never again....

Thank you for your comments and review. You are correct. We are not a 4 star hotel We are actually a 3 star/diamond AAA rate property. Most reservation web sites have their own criteria for star ratings. This is usually based on customer feedback and NOT on the hotel's amenities. Our apologies that we did not meet your expectations. Thanks again for your valuable feedback.

I stayed at this hotel at the start of November 2013. I was sorely disappointed at what we got for what we paid. I knew that NY was not renowned for fancy hotel rooms unless you pay big bucks however for £210/$340 per night you should at least have ventilation in the bathroom!!! I was barely able to get dried when I got out the shower. The room was constantly too warm, tiny and had no coffee/tea making facilities or mini fridge. The hotel food was ok but again well overpriced. In the 4 days we spent here we spent most of our time out sightseeing but on every single return to our room we had to contact concierge as our key card would not allow us access to our room. This was despite on two occasions having been given new sets of key cards! As if this isn't bad enough, after settling the bill prior to leaving the hotel, on my return to Scotland the hotel have taken a further transaction of £793 from my bank account after making a double transaction by mistake. Despite the glam hotel lobby and ideal location I would definitely not stay at this hotel again or recommend it to anyone.

The Roosevelt Hotel is a beautiful, old hotel in a good location, but it needs updating. Our room was small, but the bathroom was TINY! If you are taller than 5'6", your legs will touch the wall when you use the toilet. The elevators are very slow. This is not a great hotel for midtown east NYC.

Thank you for your comments and review. Yes, guest rooms in NYC tend to be on the cozy side especially compared to other major cities or even one's own home. Thanks for your valuable feedback.

We booked the Roosevelt Hotel on a whim, at the last minute. This visit, we were bit looking for a chic hotel, a hip hotel or a sexy hotel. We needed a nice and clean, basic (but not "no frills") place to stay. The Roosevelt is exactly that.

The Roosevelt is a classic 1920s urban hotel which still has glimpses of its glamorous past. With over 1000 rooms, it's as busy as Grand Central Station which is just around the corner. (If you're lucky enough to live within train distance of NYC, you can grab an overnight bag and walk from the station.)

But it's sheer size was the reason the check-in took so long. The constant flow of people in and out resulted in a 30 minute wait in a queue at the reservation desk. It felt just like being online at the airport, which is something I've never experienced before!

The other unique experience we had at the Roosevelt was because of its proximity to the United Nations... We noticed many police dogs being walked throughout the lobby and corridors of the hotel. The U.N. was in session, and a delegation from a middle eastern country was holding all day press conferences there, this requiring the added security. At first, I was uncomfortable seeing the police dogs wandering through the building at all hours, and the obvious security personnel in place, but then it actually made me feel more secure as the weekend went on!

The room was well kept, in good condition and appeared to have
Been recently renovated. Again, nothing hip and trendy, but traditional decor and furniture. I must say the room was very quiet and really clean. Usually, in hotels of this vintage, the bathrooms leave a lot to be desired, so I was pleasantly surprised!

I would return to The Roosevelt Hotel again. It was well priced, clean and we felt secure there. The lobby was great for people watching, as it is truly an international tourist class hotel. There was also a wedding going on, and mixed with the secret service agents and police dogs, made for quite an interesting evening.

If the hotel can somehow speed the process of registrations to eliminate the long queuing involved, that would eliminate much of the frustration. (Although I must say that the desk agent was especially accommodating upon check in!)

Although a bit harried in the lobby, I believe the Hotel Roosevelt is a good value for a clean, basic, traditional hotel.

Thank you for your comments and review. Yes, the sheer volume of business can make our grand lobby feel like "Grand Central Station". However, this does make it ideal for people watching while enjoying a cocktail. Thanks again for your great feedback and we look forward to your next visit.

I got room in the 18th floor, it was clean but didn't look like photos on internet. I had to call room service to got me coffee maker because they forgot that. They didn't had free wi-fi anywhere. The place looks old but not bad. If i return back, it will be for good location & comfortable.

Ok it's NYC, one of my favourite places in the world but the hotel was lovely, the lobby is so pretty and there's a Starbucks right there in the lobby too which is so convenient because you can grab a quick breakfast and be out of there to go sightseeing and shopping!
The hotel is in a great location but everything is in NYC, we were only a few blocks away from 5th avenue and because we are walkers the only time we took a taxi was to the Statue of Liberty.
The room was large, warm, comfortable and clean. I have nothing but the highest compliments for the staff and they won extra points because the man who greeted us upon check in could say my name properly (not Claire-ra which I hate ). It was my mums first time in NYC and she loved it, not only because of the fantastic things to see and do but knowing she could go back to the hotel room and be comfortable.
Thanks Roosevelt- we will definitely come back!

Room Tip: Book this hotel and they'll look after you I'm sure!

1930s glamor beautiful lobby huge chandeliers and a very well appointed bar overlooking it all

The staff could be more friendly and speak better English but they hire what they can get I guess ...this is not unusual anywhere

Management gave us free meal at the main restaurant when an Internet booking site messed up our reservation by not specifying two double beds ...the food was top shelf
