Stayed here for my Birthday & St Patricks Day celebrations at same time.
You walk into the main lobby, which is amazing, friendly staff. Lovely room which was clean & well kept. Location close to all attractions. Quite expensive to eat & drink though.

Thank you for your comments and review. We are so happy to hear that our friendly staff, grand lobby, and central location help to make your birthday celebration even more memorable. Yes, NYC can be very expensive we hope that the prices wont deter you from visiting NYC again. Thanks again for your great feedback and we look forward to your next visit.

Very dated rooms. Deluxe double was enough room for 4 girls. . But sleeping was tight. Good location. Disappointed roof bar was not open. Subway access not as convenient as I'd hoped. Would stay in another location for a bit more to have updated rooms and that convenience.

Thank you for your comments and review. For future reference, the subway could be accessed by walking across the street and into the Grand Central access walkway? This is less than three minutes from the our 45th street front entrance. However, we are happy to hear that your overall stay was good. Thanks again for your feedback.

We are just back from our third stop at the Roosevelt in the last four years. The hotel is (as before) in need of repair, but the communal areas have charm and, like many of you reading this, for a supposedly "four star" hotel the savings as shown on Expedia are usually significant. This can swing it if you are just about always out of the hotel when in NY, as we are.

That said, this last stay was not a good one and we won't be staying again. Nobody there will care about that though, which is the exact problem with the place. You can forgive dodgy, small rooms and exposed wiring and leaky taps and so on (at least I can)... it's tougher to forgive disinterested receptionists who can barely muster an acknowledgement let alone deal with any complaint. It's tougher to forgive the extortionate charges for WIFI (15 bucks a day? come on). etc

The first room we were allocated (cozy queen) had only one bedside table/lamp, the tap in the bathroom was loose, the bath was dirty, the ceiling was peeling all over. The previous times we'd stayed in the same 'cozy queen' rooms they had been ok. My wife wasn't that comfortable and we went to the desk to see about changing rooms. I explained we'd stayed before and were returning guests and were expecting a similar room to out other stays and could we swap. We were told abruptly that "we'd got what we'd payed for" and that "this isn't a four star hotel - it's a NO star hotel" and that "you shouldn't believe what it says on Expedia". This from the shift manager about his own hotel? Bizarre. This room was clearly worse than the others we'd stayed in previously and needed a proper refit. Anyway, with serious bad grace he switched our room and so we now had two bedside tables and an armchair. hooray.

Night two we were kept awake most of the night by a group of people (maybe eight people) partying in the room next door. When I say "partying" I am not really talking about people having a good time, I am more talking about people seemingly enjoying illegal activities. Not wishing to get shot by a drug dealer, me knocking on the door wasn't an option to say "I say please keep it down" So I called the front desk who said they'd do something but did nothing. I don't blame them, I've seen Menace II Society and wouldn't wish to die asking a gang to "keep it down".

So after a night of that we were exhausted on the morning of my Niece's christening (the reason for this trip). I explained this at 6am to the night manager who to his credit handled it well. Free upgrade, comp breakfast for the next morning. More like it. Later on that day though when we tried to 'upgrade' our surly manager was back. "NO ROOMS TO UPGRADE TO" he barked. "But we don't want to get shot or be kept up all night" we answered. "THEN I CAN MOVE YOU BUT THAT'S IT". "ok then".

The next room was fine in the usual Roosevelt way. i.e needs a new bathroom at some point, but serviceable.

By the way, they also tried to charge us for the "comp breakfast".... 70 bucks. Nice final touch.

In summary, this isn't a 'four star' hotel. And really only people who haven't been to too many hotels would think it is. I suppose a read of the other reviews will confirm this for you if you are in doubt. The benefits are an ok location if Midtown is your area and relative cheapness if you are mostly out and about, which we are as we have family in Hells Kitchen. The service pretty much stinks. The cleaners are nice and friendly, but they are cleaning rooms that need refits. I don't think anyone that you are likely to see or deal with is either senior enough, or paid enough, to care about your experience. I'd rather pay more and have a better stay next time so bye bye Roosevelt.

looked imposing, lacked any finesse. room booked wasnt available apparantly so they tried to downgrade us!! after much arguing they upgraded us, this was at gone midnight! breakfast was good, tripped over a hoover wire left draped on floor! staff totally uninterested. on checkout they tried to charge a $10 gratuity per day for the restaurant staff. did point out it was a self service buffet but the extremely rude woman tried to tell us it was the law to pay it!!! soon told her where to go and so she brought out the restaurant manager who proceeded to wag his finger inches from my face whilst shouting about how poorly paid his staff were. needless to say he got told where to go too and we eventually paid our bill minus the so called compulsory gratuity. bloody awful place, shabby interior and dreadful staff, would rather sleep on a bench in central park. never never never again. avoid at all costs

Room Tip: choose another hotel!!!!!

First impressions appeared encouraging. But the central location and impressive public spaces belie a dated hotel badly in need of renovation. Per square foot, the most expensive hotel room I've encountered and the worst value. At that rate the decor and finish of the rooms and bathroom (no bath though as too small - a rather unclean shower) should be excellent. They aren't. This was a minuscule room typical of twenty or thirty years ago (The air conditioner would not be out of place in a museum). The apparently standard room is in fact so small that the free floor space is limited to a thin strip around the bed and elderly air conditioner, making it difficult for the occupants to move around.
O and if you'd like to use the internet, wi fi will cost you $15 per day, despite being advertised as an 'amenity'. They also appear to be understaffed - long queues at reception, luggage desk and concierge where the standard during our stay.
Choose somewhere else.

Room Tip: My tip would be to choose a different hotel

Thank you for your comments and review. Our apologies if the Roosevelt did not meet your expectations. Yes guest rooms in NYC tend to be on the cozy side no matter your rate, especially when compared to other major cities. Yes, wifi is $15 a day per device. We frequently shop other mid-town hotels to ensure our fees remain competitive. Again our apologies and thanks for your feedback.

Great luxury hotel at a great price. Right across from Grand central Station and superb restaurants. Lobby and coffee, cocktail bar is clean, old charm and relaxing. Front desk well staffed.
Will use this again.

Room Tip: Our room was clean and comfy. Quiet...two queen beds with room to move around. Not the topical tiny...

The lobby was beautiful-but does not reflect the state of the rooms. The first room was not very clean, peeling wallpaper, etc-which I might have tolerated until I looked up at the gaping hole in ceiling with dangling electrical wires where the smoke detector should have been. Second room appeared to be cleaner, but was missing face plate on electrical outlet and the secondary lock on door was pulled half off. I would not recommend this hotel.
