I stayed at this hotel July 2013...it was listed as a 4 star but it is not...it looks lovely in the lobby but that's where it ends...I stayed on the fourth floor...the room was very small...no bureau for clothes...flat screen TV on the far end of the wall rather than in front of the bed...AC is loud and runs continually...the room was clean the sheets were decent but the pillows were old and flat...the ice machine was broken...I reported it three times but it was never fixed...the curtain in my room was hanging (missing hooks) and I asked for it to be fixed...it never was...some rooms had a small fridge mine did not...I paid the same as others but didn't get the same amenities...for a few nights it's fine because it's clean and it's in a good location but it's not someplace you'd want to stay for luxury or comfort...the front desk staff was average...sodas in the machine are $2 but in the lobby store they're $4...they have a coffee bar (Starbucks) in the lobby bar area but a small coffee is $3... they do have breakfast items if you're an early riser...Danish...fruit etc...it's an OK hotel but I won't go back...for the price you can probably find something better.

Room Tip: Elevators are slow in coming so think before you request a floor...if you're lower than 4 you ca...

Thank you for your comments and review. Guest rooms in NYC tend to be on the cozy side especially compared to other cities. You are correct, we are not a 4 star hotel. We are actually a 3 star/diamond AAA rated property. Unfortunately, most on-line reservation sites have their own criteria for star ratings which is usually based on customer feedback and not the services the property has to offer. Thanks again for your valuable feedback.

This hotel was definitely not a 4 out of 5 stars as it shows on hotels.com, so not sure how it got its rating. It was a 2 at best and I feel mislead for booking this hotel.
The good: The location was good, a few blocks from Grand Central station in Midtown. The lobby was nice (traditional design, and probably the nicest part of the hotel). Also, the few staff members I spoke to were nice and friendly.
The bad: The room was dated. I realize this is an old hotel, but the room was not nice. If I didn't go into it thinking I was staying at a hotel with a 4 out of 5 rating, I might've been ok with it and not felt compelled to write this review. The rooms had a flatscreen TV and white comforter, but that was it for any sort of redeeming quality and looks like they were the only few things that have been updated since the hotel was built. The pictures online mask the reality and there's a reason why the the online pics are all in dim lighting and there are no pics of the bathroom (at least on hotels.com). With lighting, the room was sad looking with its old carpeting and dated, almost dirty wall paper. I was almost ok with the look of the room and with my choice, until I saw the bathroom which downgraded by rating even further. It had manila yellow tiling throughout, and the floor of the shower is on the same level as the floor of the bathroom, separated by a curtain which means the water from the shower runs into the main bathroom floor. It was also one of those showers that has the handheld showerhead that you had to position in the best way so that the entire bathroom floor doesn't get wet and that you have to remove and hold to reach your entire body . I've seen these in some of my stays abroad, but not really something i'd ever expect to see in NYC midtown with a hotel that has such a high rating. Wouldn't stay here again and wouldn't recommend it.

On arriving it was not obvious that there is a side passage to lifts to the reception and the doorman didn't offer any assistance. So we lugged our cases up the stairs, which was not great after a long flight and the JFK experience + taxi ride.
Our room was tiny with a noisy air-con unit in the room and the bathroom hadn't been updated since it was built, we felt. The shower doors didn't meet at the bottom and the shower head couldn't be adjusted downwards. This meant the water went over my wifes head and made for a meager washing experience.
We Brits are used to tea & coffee making facilities in the room but there wasn't even some bottled water.
We asked to be moved to a better room but were told all rooms were occupied??
The bed however was quite comfortable and large.
Our evening in the bar for a very nice Burger and a Beer was made by the friendliness and great service of our waiter.
In summary it needs some serious updating but is in a great location in the city.

I agree with the other reviews....the entrance of the hotel gives it the appearance of a luxury hotel but the rooms are small, outdated and no better than the Drury Lodge.

However, for the price and location this hotel is a good deal if you are not too high-maintenance.

The Roosevelt is in the heart of the city. Minutes walk to anywhere you want to go, and just a few steps to the subway. Great location! Friendly service, beautiful hotel. However, no free wifi which was a bit of a downside considering we had to go to starbucks to map out where we wanted to go. But overall, great location and very nice hotel. PS: Keep an eye open for people filming. They were using the lobby for filming Unforgettable (TV show).

The location of this hotel for the price is great. Very close to everything downtown. It was a short walk for us in blustery cold conditions after watching Wicked. Around the corner from Rock center. Rooms are pretty small, but take into effect the age of the hotel and its location, I was kind of expecting a small room.

Apart from The Roosevelt's ultra-grande entrance, this historic hotel feels historic. The rooms could use some updating and we could never get ours cool enough to be comfortable. We did appreciate the location, but overall, we weren't overly thrilled with the experience.
