We chose the Hotel Giraffe based on the fact that it was part of the chain of hotels we've liked, but had not actually stayed there before booking a few rooms for family and friends, as well as the rooftop room for a small, informal wedding reception in between the wedding itself and a dinner out.
The staff was uniformly helpful. I wonder if it's because it's not a massively huge hotel? In any case, they were gracious with all kind of things--the fact that I checked 50x to make sure the room reservations for everyone were straight, that I wanted to see the table layout for the event, and that we were traveling with a toddler and wanted a rented stroller and other equipment in the room when we arrived.
We were in a suite, and although it was a little weird to look into offices and other business spaces, that's not really something the hotel can control. Besides, it meant that it was quiet after dark, and traveling with a child, that was important to us. If you're looking for a sweeping city line view, this isn't your place. If you'd like somewhere that doesn't have thumping club music at 2 in the morning, you'll be happy here, especially if you were like we were, on the 8th floor or above.
Emily, who is the event coordinator there, was so helpful, cheerful, and basically flawless in her execution of our plans. I kept having that weird feeling like something would go wrong, and nothing did! She went back and forth with me through a number of emails, and her warmth and willingness to work with me (we moved our wedding date so we didn't hit peak prices in the city) was much appreciated. She is a total gem, and my only regret is that I didn't get to thank her one more time in person in the middle of the wedding day melee.
Our family loved that there was coffee and other snacks on demand in the lobby, and the food at our reception was great. It's nice, because there weren't a whole lot of restaurant options compared to elsewhere in the city, largely because we had older folks in our party who couldn't walk for blocks.
It felt like a true home in the city among the chaos of the holidays, a wedding that we had only started planning 3+ months before, and coordinating a dozen or so family members. We have found our new home in the city for the next time we come back (we go to New York annually), and future staff will have a lot to live up to!
