“Great Boutique Hotel in Perfect Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2013

We just got back from a great stay. Very nice room on the 4th floor. The bed was very firm. The bathroom is nice. Lots of storage in the room. The staff was very attentive with questions and quickly bringing up ice or whatever else you need. The hotel was sold out, but did not seem crowded and never waited for an elevator. The location is perfect. We spent a lot of time in lower Manhattan but also got up to the upper west side and never had a problem finding a cab to bring us back. I don't think we ever spent more than $12 on one. It's the perfect location. If you're a walker like us, we walked to Central Park one day and SoHo another. No problem. The terrace on the 12th floor was nice, but the $12 drinks were the weakest I've ever had. During the day there was rarely anyone working the front door. So you are on your own to get cabs. I think they have a fairly small crew and if someone helps a customer to their room, there is no one left to work the front door. I paid extra when booking the room for a car service, but it was just some random service that they use. The web site is confusing and I was under the impression it was paid for with tip included, but that wasn't the case, and he only accepted cash. Not cool. Our driver on the way to the airport had no idea where he was going. Waste of money. Get a cab for a lot less. Besides that it was a fantastic experience. I highly recommend.

Room Tip: We enjoyed 407. Balcony overlooked Park Avenue. Very loud, but they probably all are.

We chose to stay at the Hotel Giraffe on numerous occasions, and most importantly, on our wedding night. What can I say, the hotel is absolutely wonderful. The service is impeccable – the staff was so accommodating with providing everything we needed, and even things that we didn’t realize we needed (i.e. bar stools delivered to our suite for hair/makeup styling). The rooms are spacious and comfortable, with modern décor and most with a wonderful view of Park Avenue. For our wedding night, they decorated the room with beautiful red rose petals. The hotel itself it situated perfectly on classy Park Ave, with easy access to the train station and few blocks away from the flatiron district and amazing NYC shopping !! And the best part is unwinding to your fill of wine and cheese every evening (complimentary for all hotel guests). The breakfasts were ample with cheeses/bagels/croissants/yogurts/cereals/etc, served in a nice setting (also complimentary for all hotel guests). You can’t ask for more, especially from a NYC hotel. Overall, we were extremely satisfied with all our stays, and would return in a heartbeat when we visit NYC again (hopefully soon!). Thank you for making our wedding stay so memorable.

I booked this hotel last minute using Hotel Tonight, but I will happily book it again and again. Hotel Giraffe is a perfect hotel. The access at the corner of 26th and Park is very easy--cabs are plentiful all day and night long and you are 1.5 blocks from the subway. The lobby is bright and welcoming, but not at all loud or crazy. The breakfast is simple, but ample and the wine/cheese reception in the afternoon is a lovely touch. There is also a rooftop garden which is simple, but adds just another nice touch. Inside, the rooms are spacious by NY standards and well appointed with everything a traveler needs from plenty of power ports to plenty of surface space to plenty of storage including a large closet with full size mirrors. The king size bed is incredibly comfortable and the high ceilings really add to the luxury of the room. I was pleasantly surprised that my 2nd floor room had no street noise issues and I could hardly hear anything happening outside the walls of my room. The bathroom is large -- mine had just a shower and no bathtub, but I didn't miss it. The towels are lush, the robes are comfortable, and slippers are always a nice touch. Free wifi, turn down service, and a great on-site restaurant with patio seating....Like I said, perfect. I hate checking out this morning but I know I will be back.

Room Tip: I had no problem with a 2nd floor room but I would think a higher room would be even quieter. Some...

Haad a wonderful time with our 10 year old grandson for his birthday trip. Staff was great -- birthday cupcake in the room for grandson; everyone we met wished him happy birthday. Happy Hour and breakfast were just great. Room was just right for us.
Great collection of DVD's to borrow. Used room service and the meal was very good.

The room was clean and spacious. The complimentary breakfast reminded me of something you'd get at Motel 6 or Super 8. Cheap, cheap, cheap. The minibar had the worst selections of snacks imaginable. Good service? Sometimes. Good location. Way, way over priced. They have a high opinion of themselves. This is not an elite hotel.

Dear Jim O,

It is always heartbreaking to hear when any guest is disappointed with their stay. We do thank you for this feedback, as we always encourage our guests to detail their experiences so that we have the opportunity to improve our service for the benefit of future travelers. We are sorry to hear that our breakfast did not meet your expectations. Certainly, everyone’s expectations vary so we strive to clearly express on our website that our complimentary breakfast is a simple continental breakfast with oatmeal and cereals in many flavors, hard boiled eggs, an assortment of pastries, New York bagels, peanut better, fresh fruit salad and whole fruits, and more. While it may not be a hot breakfast, it does seem to be a great benefit enjoyed by most of our guests. Very few New York City hotels include any resemblance of a complimentary breakfast at all. Even a continental breakfast for two at some NYC hotels can run up to $50 or even $100 including tax, service, tips etc. I myself, like you love a hot breakfast at least one morning when I am on vacation, and yes, there are many travelers who would agree. For that we are fortunate to be located on the same block as the restaurant with most famous breakfast in New York City, Sarabeth’s. They provide breakfast delivery to our rooms as well, and thanks to your feedback, our guests will soon find a sample menu in every room, with a full menu available at our Front Desk. Additionally, weather permitting, Sarabeth’s has lovely outdoor seating. As for our staff, we do try to hire a genuinely happy and helpful people, who take pride in their work, and are delighted to assist our guests in any way they can. I hope they do feel good about themselves, as they work hard and have earned my respect, but if our service was lacking in any way, I take full responsibility and offer my apologies if you interpreted any interaction in an unsatisfactory manner. If there is any way you feel our service let you down, I hope you will let me know personally what happened so that I may try to work with our team to strengthen their skills and make the experience better for every future guest that walks through our doors. We are currently reviewing the possibility of switching from Minibars to empty mini refrigerators as well, based on many comments requesting these. We would love to hear feedback from the TripAdvisor travel community as to which would be preferred, and if you prefer Minibars, what would you prefer to see offered there. Please feel free to contact me personally at peter@hotelgiraffe.com.

Sincerely,

Peter Velk, General Manager

I've previously stayed in the sister hotel (Library Hotel, also excellent) and went for this hotel in the hope of something new and also equivalent good service. No regrets on the choice, enjoyable stay in a good easy to access location in Midtown. Clean, pleasant, good service. Furthermore we made a few challenges for the hotel on room changes, date changes etc and never got any hassle or issues back, which isn't always the case when dealing with hotels.

My one complaint is that being in a balcony room low down on one night, I had some issues when sleeping on a lower level with noise coming through the balcony doors. Its inevitable with the loose sealing large doors that you will get some noise getting through late at night - its not the hotels fault, but its annoying when you have 20 minutes of a late night bin lorry working away on crunching rubbish again and again and again....a regular occurance in NYC. If you are sensitive to noise like I am get a high up room or a non-balcony room (or look at their sister hotel the Library Hotel). My travel companion was less of a light sleeper and was happy on the 2nd floor so its a case of your milage may vary.

Speaking of the sister hotel - this one is better looking on the outside, has the balcony rooms, and maybe a slighter nicer internal decor.

Room Tip: Balcony rooms have relatively large amounts of road noise late at night - inevitable due to window s...

We stayed at Hotel Giraffe for one week in September and found out that all the positive Tripadvisor reviews did not lie: Large rooms (compared to New York standard), scrupulous cleanliness, impeccable service and a cozy ambiance. The hotel's location is unbeatable - ideal for all daytime and evening acitivities, but far away from midtown's noisiness. The rooftop garden is awesome (although, unfortunately, not operated on all evenings despite the warm weather). Thanks to the Hotel Giraffe team for making us feel at home!
