This hotel was situated most beautifully on the west side of Central Park. Sadly we did not have a park view, if we go again, we would certainly request park view. The hotel staff were absolutely marvellous, helpful, advising etc. Even when I was ooorly one day and stayed in bed all day, they gave is China and cutlery to use so my husband could bring me some food in. We met Samuel a lot who helped us and assisted us whenever we asked. My bath inbuilt plug was faulty and they got it fixed the same day ( thanksgiving, so very pleased ) Sadly the decor is very tired and not good in places, some quite poor repairs around. The entire building needs a complete redo, redecoration and updating. A big plus is that we walked every day in the park to get uptown, to do our various trips, shopping and sightseeing. So although we ate loads, we walked lots too. There are subways only a few minutes walk away on both sides of the hotel. There is a great place around corner for food, drinks etc should you want food and drink before a walk in the park. Central Park itself deserves at least a whole day, if not many more to explore. All in all, NYC is amazing and does exactly what it promises. Astor on the Park is a great place to stay, and very importantly is in a very quiet area, so you get sleep at nighttime away from the main part of city. Walking to the top of the pavement from hotel to the start of uptown is 30-45 mins, from hotel to uptown through the park, 1 hour or more as there are many lovely distractions in the park !
