“No sacrificing comfort for cost here!!”
Reviewed November 17, 2006

Excellent value last minute booking for a Sunday night. Expected that we would have to make some sacrifices for the standard of room but was pleasantly surprised.

Large rooms and very clean. Could not fault the room or facilities provided.

All staff very friendly on front desk and for help with luggage.

Breakfast had good selection and relaxed comfy surroundings.

Walking distance to great places to eat, theatres and bars as well as shopping and sightseeing. As two young female travellers felt safe returning at night in surrounding streets.

Would stay here again!

I'm still not used to the sticker price of Manhattan hotels. At over $350, this room (smaller that the size of my daughter's room) was hard to swallow. It was clean, had the essentials and appeared to have new bathroom fixtures. My room faced the street so it got a bit noisy at night with trash truck after truck making their stops. Location was excellent-close to TSqr or Broadway or Park Av. The continental bfast was included in the price, well ran and with the basic fare. It was convenient.
Back to the room: a square with the mini bar on one side of the bed, a small table and the TV just sitting on another small dresser with barely space for 3 days of clothes. The bed was a full bed, a tiny small for my taste. Next to the hotel was a restaurant and a few others within 100 yards.
I'm stil looking for "the" hotel in the Park Av. area but i gues I better get used to $$$$ and a small confinement.

My partner and I stayed at The Metro from Saturday 4th November 2006 to Wednesday 8th November 2006. We were celebrating our 13th anniversary and went to NYC to do some sight seeing and shopping.

This was my first visit to NYC and my partner's second visit.

We had a superior deluxe room (407) which was bigger than anticipated as we thought rooms in New York were typically small; this was not the case at The Metro.

We got 2 five foot beds, a large TV, minibar, dresser, table, coffee table, chairs, walk in wardrobe, safe, iroining board with quality iron that does not ruin you favourite shirts. The furniture was all walnut inlay and had a tasteful art-deco theme with pictures reminiscent of the film "metropolis".

The bathroom was also large and airy with Marble and Travetine decor. There were no issues with the water pressure.

Breafast (included) consisted of a large selection of continental food and beverages. The Staff were very helpful and not in your face.

On several occasions we found the front of house staff very helpful and receptive when we needed advice on the best way to get to places in and around the city. They were consistently helpful and friendly throughout our stay. They even supplied an umbrella on our last day when it rained so we did not get wet on our last shopping spree.

The hotel is particulary well located because it is central to Manhatten, with Macy's, the world's biggest Footlocker, Victoria's Secret's, The Empire State Building and a variety of good jewellers very close (0 to 2 blocks). Everything else is a very short trip by foot or cab.

The Hotel Bar makes a mean Apple or Strawberry Martini - make sure you try one even if you don't stay here !

We also ventured out of town to Woodbury Common for the shopping which is just a bus ride away from the port authority which is a short cab ride or walk from the hotel. Time square is a short walk away as well.

Favourite eat out was the Blue Fin on Union Square, again, just a short cab trip away from this centrally located hotel.

All round, The Metro represents excellent value for money if you are on business or pleasure that is very centrally located within Manhattan with very tasteful clean rooms with good facilities and helpful staff.

I will definitely be returning to this hotel on my next visit to Manhattan; loved the hotel, loved the people, loved New York.

We stayed at the Hotel Metro in Midtown,Manhattan for 3 nights at the end of September 2006.Our room was very quiet at the back of the hotel and it was a good size. The outlook from the bedroom windows was on to the rooftop of a neighbouring property, but what can you expect in a busy built up area like Manhattan?I researched a large number of hotels in New York before booking the Metro after I read in a newspaper that New York had overtaken London for room rates.I have to say that the Metro, by comparison with a lot of other hotels in New York, was good value for money.A good buffet breakfast was included in the price of the room and there was tea/coffee available 24 hours. The room facilities were good.It was clean and the bed was very comfortable.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. The location of the hotel could not have been better for shopping/attractions.There was a subway station a short walk from the hotel.
The best recommendation I could give is that if I was going back to New York then I would definitely stay at the Metro.

I have just spent 5 days at the Hotel Metro with my 16 year old daugher and her friend. The location of the hotel was excellent for both sightseeing and shopping. We could walk everywhere we wanted to go. - Times Square 10 mins, 5th Avenue Shopping 15 mins, Empire State Building 2 mins! The room was very clean and had everything you could ask for, hairdryer, tv, minibar, iron and very comfortable beds. Breakfast was included and this was a great bonus as it meant we didn't have to look for somewhere to eat each morning. There was huge selection of muffins, bagels, cereals - in fact everything you could ask for. The hotel bar was very welcoming, food there was great too. Staff couldn't have been more helpful. I would recommend this hotel as an excellent choice for a short break. One tip though, ask for a room at the back of the hotel, ours was at the back and although there was no view, we also didn't have to listen to the traffic all night! I imagine rooms at the front could be a bit noisy.

  • Liked — Comfortable beds
  • Disliked — Slightly small

This hotel fitted the bill perfectly. Brilliant location, could not have asked for more. Quiet, clean and polite. Room size not huge but then we weren't booking the Plaza and it was to sleep in, not move into! Good breakfast and open from 6.30 til 11 which is great (although gets very busy at certain times) and 24 hour tea and coffee. We were there to see the sights, and this hotel made that really easy. The front desk were really helpful when it came to leaving for the airport. The only annoying thing was we tended to break our day by returning to the hotel and they stripped the rooms in the morning and serviced in the afternoon so the beds werent remade when we came back. However, we never asked for it to be done and the maid said we could specify a time at the front desk if we wished so our own fault really. I knew that NY hotels were really pricey for what you get but this hotel I thought was perfect value for money, not a feeling I get often from hotels! We were lucky as we saw this on Trip Advisor and Virgin were having a deal at the time we went so this added to the value.

  • Liked — Brilliant location
  • Disliked — Really slow lifts!!
