Very poor impression of the metro. The staff was rude and unhelpful (the man on reception checked us in whilst he was on the phone - when the smoke alarm went off and we called reception they said they'd come up and didn't etc), the room was rather small and nothing special, the air conditionning was extremely noisy, etc. The only thing it has going for it is a good location (small street off 5th avenue) and a decent breakfast included in the price. I guess at NYC prices, you get what you pay for...

Roof terrace was closed so couldn't enjoy that either.

The best three things about this hotel were the great location , cleanliness of the rooms and the breakfast bagels and muffins.

I was part of a party of six staying in 3 rooms. Getting a good sized room seems to be a matter of luck. Of the three rooms one was huge, another was smaller but still a good size and another was extremely small. Rooms were very clean, reception staff were fairly helpful but could have been better. Decor was ok but looked in need of refreshment. Having a drink on the rooftop terrace was nice although expensive. Wasn't impressed at the service charge being included as I didn't consider the service to be particularly good. We had food up there one evening and I wish we hadn't bothered.

I have to admit my review of the hotel might be a bit better if I hadn't been comparing it to the courtyard marriot hotel which I stayed in, in New York last year. It was perfect but I didn't book it this year as the rates for September were much more expensive than the hotel metro. So I suppose for the money the metro was ok.

We all had a fantastic holiday in New York and my advice to anyone considering a booking with this hotel is that if in comparison with other possible midtown choices you find the price is right then go ahead and book.

I'd like you to consider disregarding many of the reviews of Hotel Metro that seemed to nit-pick. YES, the elevators are small and slow, and yes, there's construction next door that ties things up a bit and makes for some early weekday clatter. Otherwise, I really liked this hotel and can recommend it completely. Pleasant front-desk help, great location near the 34th St. subway station, delightful complementary continental breakfast, clean, well-appointed rooms, and a cool rooftop patio with an incredible view of the Empire State Building. It's not a resort or a five-star hotel. But for the money I don't think you'll be at all disappointed at the Hotel Metro.

As a disclaimer, I should add that through some unique alignment of the planets, or a stroke of good karma for your correspondent, my reservation through hotels.com for a basic room was upgraded to a penthouse room at no charge. I don't exactly live on a farm, but staying in the lap of (increased) luxury tends to influence one's perceptions of experiences. I hope you strike similar good fortune when staying at Hotel Metro in NYC.

This hotel is near perfection considering low price by Manhattan standards. Rooms are fair size, bed was comfortable, bathrooms are bigger than other hotels we have stayed at in NYC and breakfast was a good way to start the day. Drink prices are steep on roof top patio but spectacular view!
We will be back.

This boutique hotel is located in midtown Manhatten in the shadow of the Empire State building and a short walk form Grand Central and Penn Stations. If location is everything then this might be an hotel for you.

The rooms are among the smallest in New York City and the furnishings are cheap and poor quality. The furnishings looked are old and well-used. The bathroom was tiny. The room was tiny and looked like a warehouse closet that had been covered with sealer (the paint that is sprayed on and looks something like white cement) with some effects added that looked like they came from a flea market.

The bed was small but comfortable for two average size people.

The breakfast is average.

For US$200 night is is an okay hotel. For more than that it is not value for money and I would look around in NYC for sometign better.
