We stayed at the Gershwin in the first two weeks of June 2013 -- and we liked it very much. Everybody was very friendly, and the (second) room we got was very good and pleasant for our stay. Yes, we have to admit that the first room we got was very small. We didn't even ask for another room (only for an additional bathroom shelf) -- and were offered a new larger room. We also would not conceil that this is not a brandnew hotel. However, considered the price of the rooms, we think that this hotel is excellent, for the friendliness of the people working there and the location in the middle of NYC. -- Breakfast is excellent at Birch Coffee (within the hotel), good and affordable restaurants can be found at 3rd Avenue and Lexington (betwee 26th and 28th Street).

Room Tip: We were in the 12th floor, our windows facing 27th Street. In terms of feeling (you could see anothe...

Super clean, comfortable sleeping, rooms have cold a/c and new, white, very clean fluffy linens. Easy check-in and out. Great location. No doorman but not needed because staff was helpful without asking. Not a busy street so loading isn't stressful. Taxi just a few steps from door.

I stayed here in June 2013 with my friend. The hotel is basic but clean with comfy beds and a hot shower. If you want a really luxury hotel then The Gershwin is not for you but the only time we spent at the hotel was sleeping and showering so it suited us perfectly. The location is brilliant- walking distance from the Empire State Building, Macy's and 5th Avenue shops. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. If you have a room on one of the higher floors then getting the lift is a bit of a pain because it's quite small and often in use so sometimes you had to wait 5 min or so. But otherwise I enjoyed my stay at The Gershwin and would stay again.

Room Tip: If possible get a room on a lower floor as the lift gets busy and cramped.

If you are in NY por pleasure, then you can try this hotel. It isn't great, not even close to it. Rooms are very small. Hot water not always is there when you want it, sometimes you burn yourself. AC not very modern. That said, if you're in the city to enjoy what it has to offer you, you only need a clean room with privicy, and here you have that, even if it's a very tiny room.

We stayed at the Gershwin for 5 nights in June 2013. The hotel was quite unique. The rooms were neat and very clean. I enjoyed the simplicity of it all. It was a great location for exploring and shopping. The staff was friendly, and very helpful. They let us have an early check in. I would say the only downside to this hotel would be the showers. They are very temperamental. One second it's scorching hot, the next it's arctic cold. It is very hard to find the happy medium. But, that won't stop me from staying at this hotel again.

After paying extra for a superior room I was very surprised to be shown to an old room with 2 single beds old, no opening window and generally run down and decrepit furnishings. The rooms looked nothing like the photos on the hotels website. When I told the staff I had booked a superior room and that their website advised double superiors included double beds, I was told that there were two types of superiors and this was the other one. The room was tiny, noisy and old looking. We decided to just accept it as we had been flying for about 30 hours by this stage.

The location is great and birch cafe downstairs has a great vibe and yummy coffee (a rarity in new York ). Thankfully we didn't spend much time in our room. We moved on the last night to another hotel near times square which was cheaper and far nicer. It was then that we realised what a rip off the Gershwin was.
