Hotel was in a fantastic location, only a few minutes walk from Times Square and Central Park..

Rooms were very very nice, great bathrooms with huge shower room and free wifi In the rooms..

Only problem for us was the building site over the room waking us at 7am every morning, not the hotels fault though and it is NYC I suppose :)

The hotel is located in a prime area, very close to Time square and all the theaters. Really nice decor in the room and in the lobby. The bed was a bit too soft for my liking but still very comfortable. All the staff were very nice and helpful, would definitely stay again!

This was our families first trip to NYC (5 of us). We were celebrating my son's senior year by attending the NYE ball drop. I booked this trip back in August and had no idea what I was doing. I read the reviews, it seemed to be close to the action, and the photos were cozy and inviting. Let me say that I couldn't have picked a better hotel had I known what I was doing - lol! Our flight out was delayed so we didn't get in until after 5:00 p.m. on NYE. The streets were already blocked off but our car service got us within a block of the hotel and we walked the rest. The lobby was beautiful and the doorman and front desk could not have been any nicer. Check in took less than 3 minutes (on the busiest night of the year) and they had upgraded us to a Jr Suite at no extra charge. This was a blessing for us! The two room suite was spacious (and this is from a Texan) and accommodated my family well. It was beautifully decorated and CLEAN! We dumped our luggage and bundled up and walked out to Broadway (hotel on corner of 54th & Broadway) to realize that we were right in the heart of the action. We walked around for a while to take in the sites and then came back to the hotel to warm up. At 11:30 we bundled up again and were able to walk out of the hotel front door about 100 feet and were able to see the ball drop. Of course, if you wanted to be in the heart of the action, you needed to get there hours earlier and wait in the freezing cold. All we wanted to do was get a glimpse of it and were able to do so easily. The atmosphere was electric and we all got into the countdown and were able to watch the concert on a video screen. The celebration in the streets and at the nightclub next door was electric (they partied it up until about 6:00 a.m.). This hotel is perfect for those that want to experience the activity in Times Square and we were able to open our window and watch the partygoers - it was AWESOME! We were only there for a short amount of time but the location of the hotel allowed us to walk and or catch the subway to see as much as we could cram in during our short stay. The hotel staff and managers were polite and helpful and made for an awesome first time in NYC. We can't wait to go back! And may I also give a shot out to the NYPD - even though there were more than a million people packed into a 10 block area, you didn't know it. The NYPD has crowd control down to a science and we felt safe the entire time. The officers were friendly and kind and didn't mind answering any "tourist" questions we had. They were easy to approach (unlike some cities) and even let my son pose for a picture with an NYPD squad car. Good job NYPD - you guys rock!!!

Room Tip: If you want to experience the buzz of Times Square, ask for a room facing 54th or Broadway. If you...

I was initially happy to have gotten a big room on a higher floor as I had requested until I discovered the carpet to be wet. The staff moved me to a lower floor with a room half the size of where I originally was assigned to. The temperature couldn't be regulated and the ironing board doesn't work. Vladimir is absolutely delightful but the ladies working with him on that day (Jan 4th, afternoon) were barely enthusiastic and placed me in an unacceptable room. I'm quite disappointed.

I wouldn't normally review, the NYC trip was fantasitic, the hotel was fine although we did suffer a flooded toilet which took the guy 40 minutes to come unblock then we had to wait another hour before the maid came to clean the floor meaning we had direty water on the bathroom floor for the best part of 2 hours, the power then went off which took another hour to fix - all of which would have went unmentioned until that is we're STILL having problems with the hotel.

We paid by Visa, or tried to but their machine was down so we tried another Visa but again was told the machine wouldnt accept. we paid by debit which was accepted however, unknown to us they've held the best part of $700 dollars, which we on;y found out about when we got home. We were told 5 days, nothing. Then we called again and told between 5-7 days, again nothing.. called again this morning and were told 10 days?? give us our money back..

i've tried to speak to the manager, never there. ive tried to email the hotel, no reply so i've resorted to this..

I fully understand you may want to hold some money since we pay the hotel on departure however, 2 weeks have passed and you're hotel are STILL not answering our questions..

get it sorted

Our experience at The Ameritania was wonderful from the very beginning of our trip. We visited in NYC during the peak Christmas season of Dec. 11-15. We arrived about 5 hours prior to their official check in time, so we did not expect to have our room ready. However, they promised to get us in our room within an hour of our arrival, and they did. Jeff the doorman really took care of us by continually checking on the status of our room and holding our luggage for us while we went to get an early lunch. He even recommended an awesome restaurant within walking distance. When he took us to our room, he gave us a card to get a car service to the airport for our departure on Sunday, which was going to be much less expensive and much more convenient than the taxi we took to the hotel upon our arrival. Our 3rd day at the hotel, we came back after sight-seeing and found a nice letter from Jeff along with two yummy cupcakes in our room. This was so thoughtful, and the personal attention at this hotel is really impeccable and unexpected considering the price. The rooms are small, but well-decorated, and it couldn't be in a better location. We can't wait to go back and see Jeff and stay at The Ameritania!

Room Tip: I would request a room as high up as possible to cut down on the street noise.

I could go on and on about this, but basically it's a nice enough hotel. It's saving grace really is its location, although some would disagree as it's right next to Times Square. What I liked about it was that we could walk pretty much everywhere without having to take the subway.

Pros:
Location
Clean, our maid did a great job
wifi in room
Some reception staff very friendly and helpful
We were given a choice of a larger twin or a smaller double, without a view, nice to be given the choice

Cons
Pricey at $280 per night, although seems to be cheap enough for the area
wifi costs $10 per day, and here's the killer, per item. SO if you have an ipad and an iphone that'll be $20!!
The hotel's a bit tired now and could do with a spruce up throughout

We never had breakfast as we discovered a Starbucks over the road that had free wifi so we always ate out after that. Applebees down the road has a classic American breakfast with eggs, bacon and pancakes!!

This really was a base for us to move around from so we never ate there nor did we even have any drinks as there a myriad of bars and restaurants in the area
