Stayed at this hotel for a 3 night trip last week, myself and a female friend. I had emailed ahead asking if there was any chance they could arrange something for my friends birthday which was the day we arrived, the front desk manager replied to my email very quickly and arranged for a birthday cupcake and note to be in the room and also upgraded us to a room with 2 double beds, this was massively appreciated and made our stay very comfortable.
The room was very spacious, clean and modern with 2 large and comfy beds, a large mirror, small walk in wardrobe, free safe, ironing board/iron and a small desk with mini bar fridge, there was also a large flat screen tv. The bathroom was bright and modern with complimentary toiletries, lots of fluffy towels, a hair dryer and an amazing power shower which made the early starts that much more bearable. The only downside was the lighting, the room was quite dark and the window looked across to an office block so couldn't have much natural light when getting ready, wasn't a major issue just a small niggle. The noise from the street traffic could be heard at night even with the window shut, in the hub of a a city like New York this is to be expected and didn't bother us, however if you are a light sleeper you may want to ask for a room away from the main road.
Staff were friendly and helpful and almost every time we left or returned there was a doorman to bid us farewell or greet us, they also stored our bags on our check out and made sure we knew when our taxi arrived to pick us up for the airport.
The location for us was nothing less than perfect, we had access to 3 metro stations within a few minutes walk (7th Av, 57 St 7th Av and 50st, all on different lines so made getting around very easy). There is a Starbucks directly opposite which was great for the mornings. Leaving the hotel and turning right at the main road gets you into the main hub of Times Square within 5 minutes walking and turning left gets you to Central Park within 10 minutes of walking. 5th Avenue and Rockefeller is within around 15 minutes walking and Empire State Building about 20 minutes walking through Times Square. We also used the metro a lot and cabs to go short distances or late at night.
We were originally booked to stay at The New Yorker based on a friends recommendation, however we changed to the Ameritania for a slightly lower cost, I am very glad we did as the location for our plans was much better and the modern feel to the Ameritania was much more to my taste, the power shower swung it for me :)
Overall I really can't find anything at all to fault this hotel on, it's nice to see a hotel that is as modern and nice as it looks it the photos on its website.
I would have absolutely no hesitations in returning here and will recommend to anyone traveling to NYC.
Tips: You can obtain a complimentary code for the wifi, just ask nicely, the staff are very accommodating. I have also heard that rooms ending in 05 are corner rooms and slightly larger.
