Stayed at this hotel for a 3 night trip last week, myself and a female friend. I had emailed ahead asking if there was any chance they could arrange something for my friends birthday which was the day we arrived, the front desk manager replied to my email very quickly and arranged for a birthday cupcake and note to be in the room and also upgraded us to a room with 2 double beds, this was massively appreciated and made our stay very comfortable.

The room was very spacious, clean and modern with 2 large and comfy beds, a large mirror, small walk in wardrobe, free safe, ironing board/iron and a small desk with mini bar fridge, there was also a large flat screen tv. The bathroom was bright and modern with complimentary toiletries, lots of fluffy towels, a hair dryer and an amazing power shower which made the early starts that much more bearable. The only downside was the lighting, the room was quite dark and the window looked across to an office block so couldn't have much natural light when getting ready, wasn't a major issue just a small niggle. The noise from the street traffic could be heard at night even with the window shut, in the hub of a a city like New York this is to be expected and didn't bother us, however if you are a light sleeper you may want to ask for a room away from the main road.

Staff were friendly and helpful and almost every time we left or returned there was a doorman to bid us farewell or greet us, they also stored our bags on our check out and made sure we knew when our taxi arrived to pick us up for the airport.

The location for us was nothing less than perfect, we had access to 3 metro stations within a few minutes walk (7th Av, 57 St 7th Av and 50st, all on different lines so made getting around very easy). There is a Starbucks directly opposite which was great for the mornings. Leaving the hotel and turning right at the main road gets you into the main hub of Times Square within 5 minutes walking and turning left gets you to Central Park within 10 minutes of walking. 5th Avenue and Rockefeller is within around 15 minutes walking and Empire State Building about 20 minutes walking through Times Square. We also used the metro a lot and cabs to go short distances or late at night.

We were originally booked to stay at The New Yorker based on a friends recommendation, however we changed to the Ameritania for a slightly lower cost, I am very glad we did as the location for our plans was much better and the modern feel to the Ameritania was much more to my taste, the power shower swung it for me :)

Overall I really can't find anything at all to fault this hotel on, it's nice to see a hotel that is as modern and nice as it looks it the photos on its website.

I would have absolutely no hesitations in returning here and will recommend to anyone traveling to NYC.

Tips: You can obtain a complimentary code for the wifi, just ask nicely, the staff are very accommodating. I have also heard that rooms ending in 05 are corner rooms and slightly larger.

I booked this hotel though Hotwire and was very pleased with the gamble! This hotel offers a great central location and rooms are clean and a good size considering the hotels location. Only downside was my experience on arrival and at check in. Arriving just before 3pm (when check-in starts from) we were told the room wouldn't be ready for about 30-45 mins. i was also told we didn't have a reservation even though i had the confirmation from hotwire. This was disappointing however we had luckily already met the bellman Jeff who was great, funny and reassured us would get sorted. He offered to hold our bags whilst my mum and I left to go start sightseeing as we were only in nyc for the 1 night. On our return a couple of hours later, everything was sorted. Jeff is an asset to this hotel!

We traveled to New York and had an excellent time, due in large part to the staff at the Ameritania. Especially Javier at the Hotel Bar. He was extremely helpful and told us where to go, what to see, and even how to navigate the New York subways. I cannot sing the praises of him enough and am thankful we found him to make out stay so enjoyable.

The Ameritania is a great location from which to maximise your stay in NY. Round the corner from the studio of the Letterman show and just off Broadway major attractions are only a short walk away. Located near to a well serviced local and express metro line getting to and from JFK was very easy. Rooms are small by European standards but adequate for the nature of a city break. Highly recommended.

The Ameritania has become my "2nd home" since I travel so often to the city for business. In 2012 my team and I have decided to start staying here because of the great atmosphere. It always smells nice and is inviting. The doormen are always extremely friendly and seem to know our routine now. We love the bartender in the lounge...always looking forward to his friendly smile after a long day. Depending on which room you get, it can be a tight squeeze, but the rooms are always clean and smell great. I wish they provided wash clothes on a regular basis, but it's kind of hit or miss. The front desk staff could be a little friendlier and a little more helpful. I've only come across a couple of people who really made the front desk a fully pleasant experience. If Liza is working, you can certainly expect a smile and she always helps tourists find their way to their destinations. I would love to see her at this property more often. I would give a 4.5 due to the the wash cloths, a handful super small rooms (challenge to fit more than 1 person) and the spotty friendliness of the front desk staff. I plan to continue calling the Ameritania my "2nd home".

Stayed two nights for a girls getaway with my friend and the location was perfect. Got a good deal thru Orbitz and felt the value was amazing. The lobby was chic, the rooms were nicely decorated and surprisingly roomy. Had a couple drinks in the lobby bar and the bartender Javier was very helpful with giving us suggestions for places to eat and drink that night. The staff overall was really amazing...including Paul the GM and Julian the Bellman who flagged down a cab for us. Thank you to everyone for a great time. Would definitely stay here again!
