“Small hotel - great service .”
Reviewed September 24, 2012

This hotel is the other side of Grand Central station which threw the taxi driver into a flatspin . She couldn't work out why East 44St was a dead end and hit the station - I said take a left then a right then a left on to Lexington Avenue and we should be on the next left - she was amazed and said thanks ! It's a little bit to the left of the main part of the city but 10 minute stroll and you will be in Times Square . I don't think there was anything bad about the hotel at all and I have stopped in London many times and New York a couple of times . The room was clean and everything in it that you would expect . The hotel has an Irish bar attached to it which is nice if you are fed up with looking for somewhere to go for a bite to eat and a pint - just end up back there after a day out and have evening dinner there . The only criticism I have is about New York itself - seems to be getting expensive . Everywhere we went it was about $55-60 for a drink each ( 2 beers) and a burger or pasta - this was at dinnertime and at nightime it was the same . Probably I'm comparing this with England and the two meals for £6 theme but you can go through a hell of a lot of money in three days just having meals .
The concierge at the hotel was brilliant - he will book you any trip you want and even book your boarding ticket for the airport for when you travel home - nothing was too much trouble .You have to get a ticket for 911 even though it's free - numbers are restricted .
Booking tickets for a show on Broadway - we were told to go to TKTS office in Times Square and queue up - complete waste of time - we were offered seats apart ( Rock of Ages ) and said thanks but no thanks . On the street nearby there were people selling tickets from Marriott hotel they got us a good deal and said that TKTS was a waste of time as they get all the crap tickets that are in bad positions .These people take you into the Marriott to get the tickets - they are NOT ticket touts .
I would stop here again as it was a good hotel and the pub attached is good too .

Room Tip: Small hotel in a quiet area - any room is okay .

This hotel is in a great location. They are extremely accommodating - early check-in and making sure our room was to our liking. The room was clean. I liked the location because the street wasn't as busy and a quick walk to Grand Central provided us with easy access to the subway. I really couldn't complain about anything. We had breakfast at the restaurant and that was very good. We travel to NYC once a year, and usually stay at a hotel in SOHO, but now we have a new favorite. We will definitely stay again!

Room Tip: Choose a room in the back if you are a light sleeper.

My wife and I stayed here for two nights earlier this month, and booked our room directly through the hotel website. The hotel has a very convenient location about a one minute walk from Grand Central, which makes getting around the city, via the subway, very easy. The hotel was clean, but our room was very small, none of the lights worked in the room when we first arived, and our shower made a high pitch screaming sound every time we used it. At the price we paid, I would not rush back to this hotel. At the same time, if the Hyatt Grand Central is booked, and you want to be in this area, the Fitzpatrick is not a bad option.

Less than a block to Grand Central, rooms are quiet and clean, our bathroom (203) was newly refurbished and staff very attentive in a sincere way. This is a hidden retreat in center of Midtown! Next door is great coffee at Macchiato and cabs are easy to find generally at GCt as well as subway connections. No view from inside rooms but super quiet.

Room Tip: Lower rooms are fine given relatively low street noise on 44th, and only two elevators.

Stayed recently at Fitzpatricks for 3 nights as part of our Honeymoon,we were upgraded to
a stunning Suite on arrival, it was a great start to our trip and very much appreciated....The room itself was spacious with 3 Tv's (one small one in the bathroom!),the bed was so comfortable, would of been easy to stay in it all day..outside of the room the staff at reception were very helpful and easy to talk to, we did'nt use the bar (Wheel tapper),it looked to be busy in
the evening time for a few hours due to after work drinks, the Hotel is around the corner from
Grand Central terminal which is a huge place in itself !...There is a few 'Irish' pubs in the vicinity
as well as lots of cafe/restaurants/pizza parlours....a 10 minute walk will get you into the heart of Times square once you've mastered the 'Grid' i.e the Street and Avenue numbers...the best way to see Central Manhattan is to walk,so much to see and do...We stayed in another higher ranked T.A midtown hotel towards the end of out stay but honestly this Hotel beats it hands down,Overall I would highly recommend the Fitzpatrick grand central, hopefully we will return some day !

Room Tip: Upgraded to a suite so don't know about the other rooms

The Fitzpatrick Grand Central did everything it needed to do for us. It gave us a place to sleep and call home for the weekend. It's conveniently located across from Grand Central where we always come in on the train from CT. It's beautiful, though tiny rooms -- but it's a very nice hotel with very nice staff. We use this hotel whenever making a trip into the city. The prices have gone up quite a bit, but if we have the extra money lying around, we are there! Love it here. I recommend it to anyone looking for convenience and a comfortable place to stay.

I stayed in The Fitzpatrick in August and I was very impressed by the hotel and especially the location. The hotel is situated across the street from Grand Central Terminal (yes I have been told off many times for calling it a station..lesson learnt). This is a fantastic location for exploring the city, you are in easy walking distance to 5th avenue, Time square and with the subway at Grand Central you can get to all of Manhattan quickly.
The hotel room was a good size (especially for New York) and was equipped with everything you need. There was good hanging and storage space and the bathroom was spotlessly clean and well stocked with shampoo and soap etc.
The hotel has a bar which is called the Wheel Tapper. This is a nice Irish themes bar with a great outside area in the central space between the buildings. When we were there is was very warm so sitting outside late in the evening was a very pleasant relief. The bar gets very busy and loud on Fri / Sat nights but it was always good for a drink when returning from pounding the streets.
Another thing I appreciated was the coffee shop just next door. This became our morning coffee and bagel provider which was a great way to get going in the morning.
I would thoroughly recommend this hotel and also NYC it's self. What an amazing city with such an exciting vibe you can't help but fall for the place.
My top tips would be get to the main attractions early, go for a New York Pass and if you want to go up the Empire State wait until midnight as it is quiet and the views are stunning (then go up Top of the Rock in the day for a great view of the Empire and also Central Park).

Room Tip: Rear facing room had no street noise.
