“Great location”
Reviewed October 7, 2011

We stayed here in February 2011 for my Birthday. On arrrival we were pleasantly suprised by the helpfullness of the staff members and by the beautiful lobby. We were helped to our room with our bags. The lifts are pretty old and small (Just a warning) Our room was clean and tidy and had a walk in wardrobe, double bed, desk, dressing table, kitchen and bathroom. The bathrooms are quite dated and the view from our room wasn't the greatest (we were overlooking another building) but to be honest when you are in New York you do not spend a lot of time in your room! We booked the bed and breakfast option and you had a choice of an American Breakfast (Toast, Jelly, Eggs, Bacon, etc) or Pancakes with syrup and cream, a glass of orange juice and a tea or coffee (great value for money).
The greatest thing about this hotel is it's location. 2 minutes from Central Park South and Times Square. There is a subway station just around the corner. The hotel shop is great for bits you forgot (plasters - my husband gor blisters from walking on our first day).
I would advise anyone travelling to New York to purchase a New York Pass, they include a variety of attractions with the bonus of not having to queue or pay for anything once you arrive. We stayed for three days and managed to (first day) visit: Top of The Rocks, Radio City, Times Square, Madame Tussauds, Central Park, Horse & Carriage Ride, Empire State Building, Sky Ride, (second day) Central Park Zoo, 5th Avenue (Extra discounts in stores with pass and free gifts), American Museuam of Natural History, Harbour Cruise (Statue of Liberty, Brooklyn Bridge, etc), (third day) Ground Zero, Bowling, Police Museum, Memorial Museum, Grand Central Station.
You also get discounts/free food at a variety of restaurants.
Back to the hotel - Staff are more than happy to give you advice/directions and will arrange airport pick ups at a fixed rate for you.
On our 2nd and 3rd night (tired from walking) we decided to order room service and a movie on the TV choice screens in our room. The food was amazing and great value for money and there are plenty of movies to choose from.
Overall this hotel is great for a base to explore, maybe it does need updating in places, but for us it served it's purpose. If you are travelling to this hotel, have an amazing time. I would go back in a shot!

Room Tip: Pay a little extra for the suites or double double rooms (Better views of Times Square, etc)

Stayed in this hotel last week. Fantastic location. Next to Carnegie Hall. 3 streets from Central Park. Would highly reccommend to other travellers. You can easily walk to Times Square.

Loved New York and this hotel was great. Was in a very good location, close to everything. The breakfast was great and the room very clean and a good size, staff were amazing and helpful. Overall had a very good stay here. April 2010.

Room Tip: Get a room high up for the views of the City.

We stayed here for our first trip to New york. We really much enjoyed the location, lots to see within walking distance and close to subway stations. But the room was actually quite bad. Noisy A/C, small and shabby bathroom and a worn feeling of the entire room.

Staff was not overly friendly, but did their job.

We paid extra for breakfast to be included, but our recommendation is to skip that part. You get coupons to the diner in the same building, but you pay less if you just pay for the breakfast yourself at the diner. Also, there are a lot of other diners in the area, so you can vary yourself if you want.

We won't be staying here again. Instead, we recommend the Park Central hotel across the street. Pretty much the same price, same location but with a much higher standard and friendlier staff.

This hotel is in a great spot - very close to central park and Times Square. Its a bit old and run down, could use a coat of paint etc but otherwise okay. What alarmed me was fire safety. I stayed on the 19th floor and, as everyone SHOULD do when checking in, walked to the nearest fire exit and tried the door to make sure it would open. It wouldn't. It was an old wooden door, no crush bar, that opened into the hallway rather than into the stairwell. It had a small decorative handle that was hard to turn and no amount of tugging on it would get the door to budge. Felt like the handle might come off. I assumed it was locked. When I reported it the hotel sent up two doormen. One agreed that it was locked - the other said no it was just stiff. He forced it open but this guy could have bench pressed a volkswagon. I stayed there a week and it was occasionally open but any time it was closed it was impossible for me to open. Finally I reported it to the NYFD - maybe they'll do something about it. After all, New York is the last place I would expect to find inoperable fire exits in a high rise building. Nice staff, great location but off my list of places to stay. Note to other travellers: ALWAYS check the fire exits when you first get to your room.

Just stayed for two nights here ,
Brilliant location on 7th avenue ,you can see times square down the street,
not the smartest hotel in town but was OK .
Bathroom is small as is the bed ,but both clean and comfortable.
A very busy hotel in the perfect location for a stay in the Big Apple!!!
