“Great place in Upper Manhattan”
Reviewed March 30, 2014

Excellent location ,one of the best in the upper west side of the city , close to Central Park ,Museum of Natural History ,Lincoln Center a short subway or bus ride from the theatre district and Times Square as to upper east side and Metropolitan Museum of Art...and last but most 'important' Zabars !!! The hotel has its original charm intact , the rooms are rather comfortable and the staff very attentive, professional and helpful. The room was kept well serviced and clean (Letty is an excellent housekeeper !) . When they say check in is at four pm they mean it! Yolanda checked us in at 3PM ,which I was very grateful for . I will stay there again .

It's hard to find a decent place to stay in NYC that doesn't require a bank loan. The Lucerne is an old hotel that has been nicely renovated in keeping with its original style and is located on west 79th street, close to Riverside Park and Central Park. It's surrounded by restaurants and shops in a very pleasant NYC neighborhood. The subway is a block away, so it's convenient if you have to go uptown (i.e., to Columbia, and its medical center) or downtown, to everything else. Get a room on a high floor to keep the traffic noise down. They have free WiFi with a good signal in the room, but they forgot to put in convenient electric outlets. To charge my laptop, I had to get on my hands and knees to find one under the desk and to charge my phone, I had to pull the heavy night table away from the wall to find another. The hotel restaurant is buzzing and serves very good Mediterranean food.

Room Tip: Get a room on a high floor.

When I come to NY I love staying at the Lucerne Hotel it is the best combination of value, location, and accommodation. Located on the corner of 79th and Broadway on the Upper West Side, it is less than a block away from Broadway and the subway station, three blocks from the Hayden Planetarium and the Museum of Natural History, and four blocks from Central Park. The rooms are very generous in size. The service is wonderful and the atmosphere warm and friendly. Starbucks is down the block along with City bakery. That was a great find!! The Lucerne is well worth being a few blocks north of the noise and traffic near Times Square and getting some exercise walking to Columbus Circle, Lincoln Center, or the theater. NiceMatin right downstairs has very good food for dinner too.

Room Tip: Be nice!!!

The hotel is in a very good position to explore Manhatten. Plenty of bars and restaurants nearby and a short walk to Central Park. Public transport nearby. Staff helpful and friendly. Would use again.

This is my second time at Hotel Lucerne, this time sans family. It was so convenient and quiet when I had my family, but even more so when I was solo. It is literally close to everything: a pharmacy, wine store, bagel shop, deli, restaurants, subway clothing/shoe store, there was even a Banksy painting just steps from the door. The amenities are fantastic. The bed is comfortable, fitness room clean, with plenty of offerings, the lobby plays the best music, and restaurant nice matin was excellent. Staff is very kind and helpful. If I could give this place six stars I would. Really fantastic place.

Room Tip: If they're offering the Suite special, it is worth it. The extra space is amazing.

We are so happy that you came back to visit us! This is what our staff strives to achieve. We like to think of the Lucerne as a home away from home and the fact that you came back, strongly emphasizes this. We are happy that all our amenities met your needs. We look forward to making your next stay even more wonderful.

This was our second time staying at the Lucerne. We chose it the first time because of the location but returned because of the quality of the experience. The room was small (apparently you need to know to ask for a larger room) none were available when we checked in but was fine and very clean with Wi-Fi and one of the best showers ever. The staff is attentive and very professional. Very good fitness and business centers and again exceptional location.

I've stayed at this hotel numerous times and the staff are generally friendly and helpful. This time I had a smaller room (basic queen) but in the past have stayed in a mini-suite that has a kitchenette and sofa in a separate (but small) room off the bedroom. Disappointing that the basic queen didn't even have a coffeemaker; had to request one from the front desk. Convenient to subway and the upper West Side, as well as the Museum of Natural History and Central Park. Room service from Nice Matin is excellent; only surprise was that they cannot deliver wine (or champagne) to rooms--only beer! Strange legal limitation, apparently. Wine shop across the street was pricey but accessible.

Room Tip: Room off of main hallway from elevator that faces inside of the building away from the street won...
