Hotel sort of reminds me of an old European hotel. Smallish simple rooms, but clean, big windows, fine features like dresser and lamps, etc. Staff nice and helpful. Concierge right out of SNL, but got what we needed (car service from Show). Perfect neighborhood. Great coffee place across the street - Irving Farm, nice french bistro attached to hotel, tons of places up and down Columbus and Amsterdam, Zabars 2 blocks away, Soul cycle a block away and used the JCC gym. A 10-15 minute walk across central park, and the 1 subway easily goes up and down the west side to meat making, village, chelsea, Columbia/Barnard...

Room Tip: High up to avoid noise, we looked out on 79th and it was fine

The Lucerne is in a great and convenient location and the staff are very courteous and attentive. Good value for a New York property. The rooms are spacious for New York and clean. the location is convenient to museums, the subway and Rental Park.

We have stayed here twice and recommended this hotel to two of our Italian friends who visited NY this past Aug. They had a wonderful experience and rated the Lucerne as highly as we do. My 88 year old Aunt Mimi came in from Queens to see us and was made extremely comfortable in the hotel lobby. Nice Matin seated us at 5 so she could eat early. The Concierge, Liz, got tickets for my husband myself and two friends visiting from Boston to MoMa so we wouldn't have to wait on line. The lovely woman who cleaned our room was delightful, very friendly - the room clean, comfortable - paper at our door in the morning - at 79th and Amsterdam the location is Perfect for buses to everywhere and the park easy walking distance. We've stayed here two years in a row and will continue to stay here on our annual visits to my wonderful home town.

We stayed at The Lucerne during a business trip, but I would definitely return for pleasure. We are two blocks of a gorgeous and well-known section of Central Park (making for an easy walk or run any time of day); one block from the metro and bus stops; there are dozens of coffee shops, restaurants, and shops w/in 2 blocks; 2 blocks from the Museum of Natural History; Duane Reade across the street; AND yet the setting seems peaceful and more 'neighborhood' than touristy. The area (including The Lucerne) are pricey, but we loved it. Also quite near Columbia Universiaty. Only negatives? price, no hotel bar other than the Nice Matin next door -- that's about it.

Took my grandson to visit the American Museum of Natural History and picked the Lucerne for being near it and because they offered valet parking. It is an easy walk to the museum and Central Park.
Everything was lovely, including restaurant Nice Matin. Our evening meal was very good, and although they don't have a children's menu, they offered a small hamburger with fries for him. Room service for breakfast was quickly delivered.

The location is perfect. The rooms are well appointed and the staff is helpful. For a hotel with lots of families, etc., the hotel is quiet. The adjoining restaurant has a terrific weekend brunch and a good menus the rest of the time. And of course, there are only about a zillion restaurants, wine bars, and whatever right around the corner. Loved my stay.

We were in NYC to attend a science symposium for high school students at Columbus. We drove in and arrived at 9 AM and they let us get in our room. We were pleased to be able to get into our room so early! It was an overnight visit on Columbus Day and they offered us a free upgrade to a suite. The room was clean and comfortable. The front desk was helpful with overnight parking suggestions and printed out a coupon that I needed.

The location of the Lucerne is excellent. The subway is right down the street and was only 3-4 stops to Columbia. We also walked to the Natural History Museum in about 10 minutes. Lots of restaurants and shops in the area. Safe neighborhood. Wouild stay again if I am in the Upper West Side.
