The Lucerne is great value if you want that extra space in a room that most other hotels can't deliver. We have travelled with our daughter the past two visits, and there is more than enough room for all of us. We ended up with Two queens, and found that there is a second room with a pull out couch. (two TVs too) The upper West side location is fabulous, too. Close to the park, close to the subway, wide sidewalks for a leisurely stroll, great neighbourhood cafes and restaurants. The staff are professional and courteous and the hotel is clean.

Great location, spacious rooms, great restaurant and friendly staff. I recommend this hotel highly. Breakfast at Nice Matin is a real pleasure and the beds and bathrooms are better than those found in most NY hotels.

The hotel is clean, comfortable and well-maintained and offers reasonable value. The staff is professional and attentive. Despite being full for a busy October week-end, we were never bothered by noise from other guests.

The Lucerne Hotel is a gem. There are not many hotels in this area, but even if there were, The Lucerne would shine. Incredibly friendly staff. Very comfortable, clean rooms. Not glitzy or ultra-modern, but very solid.

Hotel is very well located for 350+ a night it is a ok for NYC standards, location and cleanliness are the best. Hotel is easy located near to the 79th Subway and a lot of cafes cleaners and restaurants on the upper westside of the city. I recommend it for people who cabn affiord the 350+ fee. the fee is flexible which makes it feel strange one day x next day z but that seems normal

Came for our 20th anniversary, staff were great in getting us a really nice room with a view of the river. Half a block from the subway, 2 blocks from two more subway lines and Central Park. Direct 10 minute bus connection to Upper East Side and the Metropolitan Museum. Lot's of great restaurants in every price range (especially on Amsterdam. Share the view of others on the front desk staff, but weren't trying to make friends. I'd say they were respectful of our privacy. Cleaning staff and bellmen were super friendly.

Room Tip: Room high up on back is very quite. King room we had was quite large, with a large storage closet.

The Lucerne is in a very (relatively) serene part of NYC on the upper west side. The room was clean, spacious, light with a view of a distant midtown. Staying here didn't feel like the concrete mountain range of midtown, it was more neighborhoody, safe and pretty quiet. A great respite.

Lots of very good restaurants within a five minute walk.

The bus system is great: two key buses are across the street on Amsterdam Avenue. The 79 crosstown goes through Central Park with stops at Fifth Avenue, Madison, Lexington, etc., thus connecting with 4-5 down/uptown buses). The 7 comes up from downtown via Avenue of the Americas (and stops at Bryant park, Rockefeller center, etc.). The best way to see a town is on the bus, to get your bearings, to see New Yorkers at their daily business, etc.

The buses only take coins, so stock up on quarters!!! Senior fare with Medicare card is $1.25; regular fare is $2.50. Each trip allows for one transfer and is good for 2 hours.
