“Our Favorite NYC Hotel”

We stay at the Lucerne about four times a year and have done so for the past five years; the one constant is the excellent level of service from every member of the staff. The location on the Upper Westside is perfect, the rooms are immaculate, the adjoining restaurant, the Nice Matin, is wonderful; the neighborhood has numerous small cafes, restaurants, stores; but what makes the Lucerne so special is the caring, friendly staff from the bellmen who greet you when you arrive to the folks at the reservation desk and the housekeepers. They make guests feel welcome and that's an intangible that many NYC hotels still haven't figured out.

This is my second time staying at this hotel. The location on the Upper West Side is excellent. There's plenty to eat and do right there, including a number of playgrounds and Central Park. This is especially important for us since we have young children. The food selection for breakfast is great. You can find plenty to take back to the hotel in the morning, or if you want to go out there's plenty of places to do that to (we really like Sarabeth's West). There's a subway stop a half block away so you can easy get to everything not in walking distance.

The staff at the hotel is great. The kids love all the door men who are very friendly (and make sure the kids don't forgot/drop things in the lobby).

The hotel is nice, clean, and doesn't really have any problems but it doesn't do anything totally awesome either. I'd love to give it a 3.5 circle rating but I cannot select that, and I don't want to give it a 4, so 3 it is.

One thing that really annoyed me this past trip was that the TV was programmed so that it wouldn't let me play a movie from our iPad. I was able to get the iPad connected but the TV wouldn't do anything when pressing the "TV Video" button on the remote.

The Lucerne will stay on my list of hotels to visit when I'm in the city but the TV issue definitely will play a factor the next time I'm looking for a place to stay.

Just returned from a three night stay at The Lucerne. I was not disappointed! I discovered this hotel a few years ago and now consider it my home away from home when I visit New York. It is close to the Subway as well as Central Park and Riverside Drive. In addition to the restaurant attached to the hotel, there are quite a few restaurants nearby. It has a great neighborhood feel.

The hotel staff, especially the Doormen and Housekeeping were so accommodating. I lover my room (a suite with a separate sitting area and small fridg).

I can't wait to go back.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the back of the hotel

I had been to New York several times already and wasn't set on being in mid-town. I booked after reading the excellent reviews on Trip Advisor, and wasn't disappointed. It has everything you would need (including a fridge in the room) and the gym was great - compact but had all the equipment I would use. I would certainly stay there again.

As native New Yorkers currently living abroad, we wanted to stay in our former neighborhood (The Upper West Side). The Lucerne is well located on 79th St & Amsterdam. Close to multiple subway lines and away from the typical tourist areas (Times Square & 5th/Madison Avenue).

The hotel room was clean and comfortable. Yes, the room is on the small side as one would expect in NYC, but it was not tiny...there was a good closet with a safe and a decent-sized bathroom with hairdryer. We stayed in a room in the back with no view to ensure a quiet stay (I would recommend this as 79th st and Amsterdam are quite busy).

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the back (not facing the street or avenue)

After an overnight international flight I arrived at 7.30am ready to leave my bags and try not to fall asleep somewhere in the park until check in - but was beautifully surprised when the wonderful staff checked me in straight away and sent me upstairs for much needed rest!

This hotel is an absolute gem!!! I only stayed for two nights before meeting friends out in Sag Harbor, but would have loved to have stayed longer.

Beautifully appointed, in a wonderful neighbourhood and within walking distance of everything New York has to offer. I am a walker, so found it equally easy to walk all the way from the hotel into Rockerfeller Plaza as to catch a cab - to experience New York and all it has to offer. Access to park is only a block away from the hotel and that is always a treat anyway, in the fall even more so.

I have New York friends who are always staying in the city overnight who have never heard of this little wonder and am telling everyone what a find it is.

Yes the room is small, but if you are spending more time in your hotel room in New York City (other than just sleeping there) there is something wrong with you!!!

Thanks again for a wonderful stay - I will definitely be returning.

My wife and I stayed at this very reasonably-priced, well-located hotel for 6 days while we were in Manhattan. . . and have no regrets whatsoever. The only problem was a defective built-in hair-dryer and my wife had to wait slightly longer than she would've liked (with wet hair) for a replacement dryer to be delivered by the staff. The room was comfortable, quiet and mid-sized, the staff was wonderful (especially the doormen, who were very adept at getting taxis), and a great restaurant, Nice Matin, was adjacent to the hotel with great food, superb service and also reasonable prices. You can't go wrong here!
