I've stayed here before and would stay again. Perfect location, attentive & friendly staff and beautifully appointed rooms. My room was plenty big for 1 person, was so beautiful I culdn't get over it and the bathroom was immaculate and beautiful. I was looking for a place for a late evening coffe & dessert and the concierge recommended "cafe lalo" within walking distance, a small cafe that was filled with tourists & locals, had delicious pastries and I later found out was a setting for a scene in the film "You've got Mail". The hotel is in a lovely neighborhood and within walking distance to several great NYC museums, the Metropolitan, Natural History & MoMA. Highly recommend this hotel.

Had meetings on the upper west side before a three day event in mid town, so I decided to stay closer to meetings for the first night of my trip. The Lucerne exceeded expectations on every level: great staff, lovely room (of course its small, but it's lovely) and extreme comfort. The neighborhood is wonderful, of course, with everything you need and Zabars too! I wish that I could have stayed the next four days at the Lucerne.

The hotel earns my rating based on the bang for the buck you get relative to other New York City hotels. The rooms clearly lack storage space for stays of over two days if occupied by two people. The a/c units are old and noisy. But, the rooms and common areas are very clean. The hotel restaurant has received a number of rewards, so prices there are relatively high. I recommend going to the Amsterdam Diner on Amsterdam Ave about a block or so up for breakfast. Good food at surprisingly low prices! Staff are professional and relatively friendly. College bars are nearby, plenty of decent and diverse dining is available in the area. The subway stop (1) is on the same block and in conjunction with the express lines one stop down it offers really quick travel to mid- and downtown. Overall, a very positive experience.

I found this hotel on the internet. The rooms are very nice and the location is just enough out of the way to be relaxing. It is close to Central Park and several major museums and the subway stops a block away. There are tons of excellent restaurants nearby on Amsterdam Ave.The staff were friendly and helpful.

First time staying at the Lucerne. I'm glad I chose this place. was in the city for one night to see a broadway show but i knew I didn't want to stay in touristy midtown. Just two blocks from Central Park and even closer to the Museum of Natural History with a ton of good restaurants nearby. Friendly service, clean rooms, good value.

The Lucerne is a well respected Upper West Side hotel in a great location with "old New York" manners and a relative bargain for the value.

One block from the 1,2,3 subway lines and two blocks from the A,B,C lines. Directly across the street from the Crosstown bus stop.We literally travelled from one tip of Manhattan (the Cloisters to the north) to the other (Battery Park) and across town to Sotheby's on public transportation close by.

Located away from the crowds of Midtown/Time Square, the Lucrene provides for the guest who values a smile, an opened door and a complimentary Sunday NY Times or a guest who wants to stroll to the Museum of Natural History and picnic in Central park. You WILL NOT find hoards of tourist groups choking the well appointed lobby and WILL NOT find hoards of conference attendees clogging the elevators.

Reliable. Dependable. Mature. Our stop for our next visit to NYC.

When I head to NY, I usually stay in Midtown, but it's always such a depressing place to stay..tourists having fun, no good restaurants, and waaay to many people. This time I decided to stay up out of midtown and went to the upper west side. I was glad I did! This is where people in NY actually live, and it's such a more relaxing experience. The hotel is in a great location with oodles of restaurants, quick access to the park, and even quicker access to the subway line.
The hotel itself is really nice and has decently sized rooms for where it is. They do still have the old-school window a/c units, which are always too loud and never the right temperature, but after a few adjustments it was fine. I even had a window in my shower, which was a rarity! I'd definitely recommend staying here no matter where you're going in NY. You can always catch the subway to the rest of the city, and it's so nice to be near amazing little restaurants and quiet(er) streets!
