“Good hotel at a good price in the Upper West Side”

I found this hotel on the internet. The rooms are very nice and the location is just enough out of the way to be relaxing. It is close to Central Park and several major museums and the subway stops a block away. There are tons of excellent restaurants nearby on Amsterdam Ave.The staff were friendly and helpful.

First time staying at the Lucerne. I'm glad I chose this place. was in the city for one night to see a broadway show but i knew I didn't want to stay in touristy midtown. Just two blocks from Central Park and even closer to the Museum of Natural History with a ton of good restaurants nearby. Friendly service, clean rooms, good value.

The Lucerne is a well respected Upper West Side hotel in a great location with "old New York" manners and a relative bargain for the value.

One block from the 1,2,3 subway lines and two blocks from the A,B,C lines. Directly across the street from the Crosstown bus stop.We literally travelled from one tip of Manhattan (the Cloisters to the north) to the other (Battery Park) and across town to Sotheby's on public transportation close by.

Located away from the crowds of Midtown/Time Square, the Lucrene provides for the guest who values a smile, an opened door and a complimentary Sunday NY Times or a guest who wants to stroll to the Museum of Natural History and picnic in Central park. You WILL NOT find hoards of tourist groups choking the well appointed lobby and WILL NOT find hoards of conference attendees clogging the elevators.

Reliable. Dependable. Mature. Our stop for our next visit to NYC.

When I head to NY, I usually stay in Midtown, but it's always such a depressing place to stay..tourists having fun, no good restaurants, and waaay to many people. This time I decided to stay up out of midtown and went to the upper west side. I was glad I did! This is where people in NY actually live, and it's such a more relaxing experience. The hotel is in a great location with oodles of restaurants, quick access to the park, and even quicker access to the subway line.
The hotel itself is really nice and has decently sized rooms for where it is. They do still have the old-school window a/c units, which are always too loud and never the right temperature, but after a few adjustments it was fine. I even had a window in my shower, which was a rarity! I'd definitely recommend staying here no matter where you're going in NY. You can always catch the subway to the rest of the city, and it's so nice to be near amazing little restaurants and quiet(er) streets!

Two nights in the Lucerne provided a nice taste of what Upper West Side living would be like. Wonderfully located in a vibrant part of Manhattan, it is surrounded by good food, interesting people, nearby parks, and a location from which you can walk to explore NYC....and get a feel for the real. The room was very well equipped with nice amenities, excellent HVAC, comfortable bed and very spacious for NY standards, including a walk in closet and large bath. Everything was thoughtfully located ... I never had to search for a needed item. Staff were courteous and helpful. Not overtly friendly, but they are great for New York. Yes, I would stay here again.

I've stayed at the Lucerne many times in my travels to NYC. It is situated in a fantastic UWS location with easy access to the Subway system (one block W or two blocks E). There a literally dozens of quality restaurants in this thriving area and it is one block away from the NYC landmark Zabars. The rooms are large by NY standards and a very well appointed, especially if you opt for the more deluxe categories. It was very hot the last time we were in NY and the a/c in the Lucerne may be some of the best I've ever experienced in the city! The staff could not be more pleasant, and if you stay for more than an day or two, will know your name and recognize you instantly. While the Lucerne isn't 'fancy' by any means, we try to stay there when we can. The Waldorf may have more 'prestige', but I'll pick the Lucerne any day over the Waldorf. If you want to blend in and feel like you live in NY, there is no better spot to do it - this isn't a highly touristy area. If you watch carefully, the hotel runs specials on a regular basis, making it even more affordable at certain times. Enjoy!

Room Tip: Worth the upgrade to 'deluxe'..

I stayed at the Luceren for the second time on my recent trip to New York, and once again was completely satisfied with my stay. The location is particularly convenient for visiting Central Park and the museums on Fifth Avenue, and very handy to the subway. Lots of good shopping and restaurants in easy walking distance. Rooms are small, but comfortable and modern. Service is pleasant and efficient, if not overwhelmingly friendly. You get a 15% coupon for the attached restaurant, Nice Matin, a nice place to grab breakfast before heading out although pricey (the coupon definitely helps!) For a more reasonably priced breakfast, hit the Zabar's Cafe at 80th and Broadway, just a couple of blocks away.

Room Tip: Upgrade to a deluxe room if there's more than one of you and you don't want to feel cramped.
