The doormen were excellent -very nice and remembered us throughout our trip. We had a corner room with excellent views. Although you could hear the traffic from 12th floor, it wasn't bad. We could hear people in the halls more than I expected, but overall it was fine. Clean rooms, nicely updated bathrooms. A great stay overall. The subway 1 is just a block from the hotel.

Excellent, quick breakfast at Amsterdam Cafe across street (if you are on the go). The Nice Matin (hotel's restaurant) has excellent desserts and breakfast (we did not eat dinner there only because of timing). They have a nice patio area if you enjoy sitting outdoors.

The concierge was helpful in locating us reservations in the Village one night. Lobby was always busy and full, but it was clean and nice.

Best part is this hotel is not in the midst of tourist crowds like midtown area, but close enough to subway to get to those places.

We usually stay at Marriott or Hilton as we are members, but we needed a hotel on the upper west side close to where our daughter lives. After checking Trip Advisor, we decided to give the Lucerne a try. All the positive remarks are right on. The rooms are spacious and well appointed. Decor is very traditional and may be a bit dated, but it gave off an "old world" feel. While we had absolutely no view (facing a brick wall on both sides), the advantage was no street noise at night. The room was very quiet for NYC standards.

We had a rental car and used the valet, but later noticed there was a garage just across the street which probably would have cost us less. Nevertheless, the doorman and desk people were all incredibly friendly and helpful making us feel as if we were long time patrons, even though this was our first time. We had even received a call from the concierge a few days before we arrived asking if there was anything they could help us with.

The location is near plenty of restaurants and shopping. The hotel offers a discounted breakfast coupon for the restaurant, Nic Martin, next door, and while service was a little slow, the food was very good.

Room Tip: If you want quiet, don't expect a view.

I used to live in the metro NY area but moved away many years ago. When I return on a visit, if I'm not staying with friends I generally stay in mid-town at the Hilton. But the prices have gotten so high that I searched Trip Advisor and found The Lucerne at a more reasonable rate (and bedbug free!) on the upper west side. It's in a terrific location near Central Park, lots of neighborhood restaurants including my favorite brunch restaurant "Sarabeth's Kitchen," shops and subway station. Hotel accommodations were lovely, the staff were extremely helpful with the concierge going out of her way to find us a last minute Saturday night restaurant reservation as we had just arrived from the airport. I saw in a prior review that someone thought the rooms were too small but they were no smaller than the rooms I've stayed in at the NY Hilton. It would be nice to have a coffee machine in the room but with the Nice Matin just downstairs, coffee is only a minute away. Loved the Nice Matin breakfasts also. Will recommend the place t friends and will stay there again.

Finding a great hotel in NYC is difficult and can be quite a gamble. The Lucerne Hotel was exactly what we had hoped for. It was conveniently located, easy parking, friendly, helpful staff. It was clean, comfortable and had a classy historic feel.

The restaurant associated next door was fantastic and it is just a short walk from Central Park. The neighborhood is classic NYC brownstone- beautiful and classy.

The experience and value you received at this hotel prompted me to write this review- the first review I've ever written online.

We booked online, and when we arrived, we were upgraded to a suite for the same price. The suite was spacious, clean, quiet, and well appointed. The bed was extremely comfortable. The staff was very helpful regarding our luggage (which we needed to leave at the hotel for a couple of hours after checkout). The Lucerne's location was perfect for what we planned to do while in NYC. No question, we will stay there again.

I had the best stay at the Lucerne. A quiet, well appointed room, free wi fi, helpful concierge who recommended and booked restaurants and shows. The bistro Nice Matin downstairs was open all day and night. Friendly staff who provided pillows and document printing. The location is great, 2 -3 blocks from Central Park and 1 block from the subway. And bargain shoppers, Filenes Basement is 100 Metres away.
