We visited Dovetail a Saturday evening, and had the four course set menu for 85$. Delightful food, tasty, fresh and delicate. We also asked the waiter to pick a glass of wine to each plate. Our waiter took the challenge, and put together som wonderful wines, and she was even interested to discuss if there should be red or white wine to the halibut. Unfortunately I do not remember all the excellent wine.
The Dovetail is a modern restaurant, looking more like a restaurant in Europe than a typical New York restaurant, with wood floors and brick walls. We have had a lot of wonderful meals in New York, but most of the restaurant have a bit old fashion-style. This is not the case with Dovetail.
The menu with crab salad and halibut confit ended with a bittersweet Chocolate Soufflé, in full harmony. A lovely restaurant where the waiter are friendly but most important, had knowledge about the food and the wine which made it a perfect Saturday evening. But, you do have to book a table in advance.
