Kielbasa, perogis, and blintzes. Best pre- and post- theater menus, and you can just call it a menu.

“Chicken Cutlet Yum Yum Yum”
Reviewed January 7, 2014

This little hole in the wall has the BEST chicken cutlet you can imagine. It comes with all sorts of Polish stuff, cabbage, mashed potatoes or veggies and gravy if you want it. I would eat one every day if I could..but then I would become fat and i couldn't stand myself. Although there are worst ways to go. Death by chicken cutlet…Yum Yum

“Best Diner EVER!”
Reviewed September 2, 2013

We were lucky enough to be staying in the East Village around the corner from the Stage Restaurant. Wanted to go somewhere for breakfast, and remembered seeing this place the night before. It is tiny, just one long counter actually. But the food and the service were amazing! The staff is very friendly and pleasant. When I told them I'd skip the home fries with my breakfast they suggested I try the Kasha. Having no idea what this was, the waitress gave me a small bowl to try. It's sort of like buckwheat, served with a tasty onion gravy on top. It was delicious!! They also serve homemade thick sliced Challah bread! The Challah bread french toast my girlfriend had was delicious! Not only was the food fantastic, so were the prices! I had bacon and eggs with Challah toast and Kasha -came to $6 !! There was a steady stream of customers through the place. Everyone was greeted warmly and left looking satisfied and happy. We made sure to go back there the next morning. Had eggs benedict with more kasha and the hollandaise sauce tasted homemade! Really great place!! So happy we found it!

“funky, fine”
Reviewed August 18, 2012

We chose Stage Restaurant from reviews at other sites and location - next to Orpheum theater where we were taking our two ten-year olds. We didn't want a fancy expensive restaurant but one that ten-year olds can find something they like and are comfortable. We almost didn't go in because it looks a bit "tired" from the outside, glad we went in. It has one long bar-stool counter and one waitress. It has everything from Polish everyday foods to breakfast all day. One of the ten-year olds chose the special for the day - spaghetti and meatballs for $9.95. He got four very large meatballs, with a hearty red gravy over the pasta, and two slices of bread. He ate all four meatballs. I had a cup of the best lima bean soup I ever had - not the fake thick diner soup, but a tasty hearty soup. It was fun being with the locals, and watching the waitress cover the entire bar. Food came out as it was ready. I recommend it for decent food at a very decent price. If the eater wants a table cloth and pretentious wait staff, this is not their place.

“A MUST Visit if you are in the area and VERY hungry. Or not”
Reviewed October 8, 2010

An amazing, authentic experience and a real surprising find for us. Wandering NY and (as usual) hungry for breakfast we stumbled upon this small (even cramped - in a nice way) diner-style eatery. The food was great, not expensive, fresh, served by friendly people. When we got there there was a queue of cop cars outside and a steady stream of officers coming in for take-out breakfast while we ate. Read other excellent reviews. http://www.menupages.com/restaurants/stage-restaurant/?restaurantid=2567&page=1#reviews
