Very nice upper east side boutique hotel with great customer service. Beds were very comfortable. On the second floor, they have coffee and tea at all times. Rooms are somewhat small, but they work. Overall, great hotel if you want to stay in the upper east side.

The Hotel Wales is like something from the past and somewhere in Europe. It is a very comfortable place with old-style attention to details down to the wooden slats in the window blinds. Working transoms and marble bathrooms is very Parisian. Even thought our room faced Madison Ave. there was little street noise that made it to the sixth floor. There is great dining nearby (the Room Service is provided by their neighbor, Sarabeth's which is the stuff of legend. At the corner is a terrific bookstore..."The Corner Bookstore", one of few of the dying breed in the City. I loved staying at the Wales.

I stayed at the Hotel Wales while attending a meeting in April. As others have noted the rooms are small, but this is New York and it was more than adequate for my needs. The bathroom was lovely and spacious with a wonderful shower. (We had one day where a pipe burst so there was no water for a few hours, for which the staff was very apologetic). I had a room facing a brick wall so no view but it was very quiet for the most part - I can imagine it would be noisier facing Madison. A wedding party came in to stay the last night and were very loud until 3 am - I didn't bother to complain as I had to get up at 4 anyway for a flight. The location was close to Central Park for walking and running, the subway a couple of blocks away, and there were lots of small local restaurants on the block, frequented by the locals. Sarabeths next door had excellent breakfasts. I also liked the lounge on the second floor. The exercise facility was small to say the least, but had an ellipitcal, treadmill and bike and no one was every in it, so it was great.I have stayed in a few other locations in New York and really liked this the best. Would happily return with my family.

Room Tip: If you don't care about a view, go for one of the back facing rooms. As long as your fellow gues...

Thank you for taking your time to let us know your overall feelings throughout your stay. First of all my apologies for the inconvenience of the water, unfortunately it was something unexpected. I'm very content that you had enjoyed your stay with us, and looking forward in having you and your family stay at the Hotel Wales.

Darling little hotel in a great neighborhood. Our corner suite was quite comfortable, with a lovely view of the Central Park reservoir. Staff was knowledgeable and very helpful. Some areas of hotel are time-worn, but I feel it adds to the charm. Neat and clean everywhere. No coffee maker or fridge in the suite (they will put in a mini-fridge for a small fee). Free coffee service on mezzanine. Subway, museums and plenty of great food within walking distance. Would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Upper floors = less street noise.

Found on the internet in order to visit NY in 4 days with my family. It turned out to be a very quiet hotel in a residential area and close to Central Park. Well located to start the days in a easy way with a walk in the Park before heading off to downtown NY. The suite was perfect for our family and the rooftop restaurant facility should be nice in summertime

Room Tip: The Suites are ideal to lodge your entire family.

I have traveled around the world and have had the privilege to stay in top luxury hotels. Hotel Wales is so charming I feel like I am in Europe! The staff particularly Rosalyn was so lovely. Extremely welcoming and left me with a feeling I have to come back! The renovation on the hotel makes is tasteful and allows for conversation areas particularly near the coffee area on the Mezzanine level. The neighborhood has wonderful restaurants and boutique shops...even a fabulous manicurist across the street. It gets one out of the hustle and bustle of NYC. The proximity to the Park allows for early morning walks to clear your head. I can't thank Rosalyn enough and the staff of Hotel Wales! Be back soon!

I've got to say, on the surface this hotel is starting to look a little tired, but I was able to overlook that as everything else was amazing.
The Wales is a charming old world hotel with loads of character and historical features.
Our room had a sitting area as well which was very welcome at the end of a long day, as was the free tea and coffee on the mezzanine level. The king bed was super comfortable and although the room was not big, we had two TV's (not that we needed them).
Outside the hotel, well Central Park of course, but up this far, it was incredibly quiet and noticeably un-crowded. Now, the restaurants....what a selection and all literally within steps of your front door.
The only negative was the night noise, not people or cars, but trucks, I heard them all - my husband however, slept like a baby, so it's clearly an individual thing.

Room Tip: Go for a room with a sitting area and possibly not on Madison ave.
