Took daughter for a college visit and found this place via Tripadvisor. I had originally planned to stay in NJ and travel to NYC by NJ Transit Bus. Once I discovered free parking on 42nd Street I was sold. Rooms are smaller than a modern hotel, but we didn't spend time there anyway. Coffee and tea in the lobby were of good quality. Staff was very friendly and helpful

This clean and comfortable hotel is located in the heart of Manhattan. A five minute walk over to 9th Avenue and a mutlitude of great restaurants, bars and pubs abound. The rooms are nice, clean and comfortable. There is a diner for breakfast next door to the front lobby which is very convenient.

We stayed at the Travel Inn Hotel in order to attend a convention at the Javitz Center. The hotel has exactly what the frugal traveler needs - AND... (you thought I was going to say "nothing more." )

But that's not true! The Travel Inn Hotel has FREE parking in the attached Parking Garage. The Travel Inn Hotel has an outdoor swimming pool that is open during the summer months. The Travel Inn Hotel rooms have refrigerators and microwaves! Did I mention free parking?

Our "double double" room, while not huge, was very clean and more spacious than some of the more expensive hotel rooms in town. However, the bathroom was very small and the glass shower doors had been painted white making it somewhat difficult to see while showering. I was not bothered by street noises although I have spent some of my life in NYC so that might explain why I may not notice street sounds. The bed was comfortable --- and I did check underneath for mouse traps (as someone had suggested) and there were none. The closet was tiny but adequate and contained an iron and board.

Previous reviewers have elaborated on the numerous cultural opportunities within walking distance- I'll describe some of the more mundane but important nearby attractions. Want to fill up the refrigerator and buy something to cook in the microwave? The Food Emporium is less than one block away on 42nd Street. If you are traveling by car and staying for more than a few days, consider packing some eating utensils and a microwavable mug, plate and/or bowl in which to warm food and beverages. (There is no coffee maker in the room, nor are there coffee cups or utensils in the room).

Want to (smartly) leave your car in the garage and use public transportation? The Times Square MTA station is a few short blocks away (walking distance in sensible shoes) on 42nd St. You can purchase transit authority passes at self-serve kiosks in most entrances to the subway. Be smart about the use of cell phones, ipads, etc. while using public transportation. Thefts of said devices occur when people are using them in crowded public places and are oblivious to their surroundings. Put your cell phone away and stay alert.

Want to go off the beaten path? The section of town known as Hell's Kitchen is just to the north. There are lots of interesting little shops (I am a consignment/thrift store devotee) and restaurants geared less toward the tourists and more toward the locals. I used my Yelp iphone app to find all of these places within walking distance of each other.

And if you have concerns about Caffeine withdrawal, there are several Starbucks and other coffee shops/ cafes in the area within walking distance.

We had a great short stay - and it was too short. Next time we return to NYC, we will definitely stay at the Travel Inn Hotel!

We really enjoyed this hotel for it's value & location. It was clean & comfortable, our room had a refridge, microwave, hair dryer & ironing board which came in handy to store left-overs & also get ready for nights on the town. I was really concerned because this hotel seem really inexpensive to other hotels I had looked at in NYC. For the price, it exceeded our expectations & was a perfect hotel room for what we needed which was a place to sleep & get ready to take in the sights of NYC. Location was great, we walked to the theatre, Times Square and had a choice of 100's of restaurants. It was an easy walk to the subway and we never had a problem catching a cab.

Room Tip: The pool, exercise room & ice machine are on the third floor so if you are using these amenaties...

A very adequate place to stay on our recent family trip. No frills, but then again, we didn't come to the city to stay in our hotel room. We stayed here for seven nights, in a room that overlooked the (empty) pool. The courtyard is like a little echo chamber, and some nights the noise was a little bothersome. In the future, I would request a room that was not open to the courtyard.

The shower had great pressure, but a terrible shower head. It was nice to have a refrigerator and microwave in the room for late night snacks. There was a halal food cart stationed on the nearby corner most nights. Twice I went to the bar around the corner for a nightcap -- a very nice neighborhood joint.

Again, a great location for the price. We tended to leave in the morning around 9:00 am and not return until 10 or 11 pm, so we weren't in the room much except to wind down from the day and sleep. Daily maid service kept the room tidy and the toiletries stocked.

We would stay here again.

Room Tip: Courtyard rooms can be noisy!

I reviewed this hotel in 2006 but wanted to give an update because of the neat little deli that is attached to the building. I could not find a review for the Broadway Bagels and Deli which is too bad because it's a pretty nice little spot. Nothing fancy, but just a decent place to start the day with a quick bite to eat at very reasonable prices. My wife and I ate there every morning on our recent trip there and we also had them make up sandwiches to take back for a snack on our flight home-very tasty. If your staying at the Travel Inn, give them a try. I don't think you'll be disappointed. And as for the hotel, this is still just one of the best bang for the buck properties in NYC. Nice sized rooms. Clean and comfortable and only about a 10 minute walk to Time Square. There's also free parking, which is just simply amazing for New York. But if at all possible don't drive. Driving in Manhatten is just crazy. Use the public transportation. There is even a Google App that you can get that will show you how to get anywhere using the subway. Be advised that the people at the Front Desk can sometimes be a bit abrupt.

Room Tip: Try to book way in advance. The rate doubled from the the time I booked until the time I arrived the...

Well placed hotel within walking distance from Times Square and Penn Station. Easy to get around, safe neighbourhood. We did not feel threatened when walking alone at night, there is a police station opposite. Good value for money for NYC, would have liked tea/coffee maker though. Lovely and clean in a quiet area- sounding car horns in that area attracts a fine....fantastic for us. Free wi-fi, need to get a new code each day. Great coffee shop next door. Secure parking available.
