I did my research before going and it was worth it, the hotel is convenient to Times Square (three long blocks) and also to the Javits center (two and a half short blocks) The rooms are just slightly outdated but they are perfectly fine, we appreciated the fridge and microwave, the beds seem to be orthopedic so if you're not used to it, seem a bit hard but after a while, they are OK. If you are taking a shuttle from the airport, just look for one that arrives in the Port Authority station, it is two long blocks from the hotel. I didn't know this and wasted money on ta taxi, when the shuttles are quite alright and less expensive. There is a supermarket very close to the hotel, loved it!

Like many others have said, the location of this hotel is great! After parking for free in the dedicated hotel lot (read: no non-hotel guests allowed, attached to the hotel), we were able to walk or take the subway all over the city. The ease of the location made the trip that much better. There are several great restaurants right around (Amy's Bread Bakery was one of our favorites). It is also very close to the Intrepid Sea, Air, and Space Museum which is part of the reciprocal admission plan with many museums (we were able to use our Chicago Field Museum Membership to get in for free). Thanks to all the wonderful reviewers at Trip Advisor, I was able to ask ahead of time for a room with a fridge and microwave so we were able to have breakfast in our room with things we brought from home.
The cons for this hotel again echo what many others have said- The room was very warm in the evenings, so much so that it did affect my sleep. I would suggest that management consider getting fans for the rooms if there is no way to fix the heating issues. If you like a warm room though, this might be best for you. If you do not, definitely make sure that you open your windows as far as you can before you leave during the day so the room is cooler when you get back. This helped us a lot.
One other small thing- The front desk staff, while not outwardly rude, also were not overly friendly or helpful. When I first got there to check in, I had to wait while the front desk person finished his personal phone call. It was not a big deal, but if you are looking for friendly reception and helpful advice, you may not be satisfied with what is provided.

Room Tip: Ask for room with fridge and microwave if you want one. Ask for 6th floor for less noise from the...

We asked managment to look into a change for our hotel room and have never been answered more rudely or with more disregard than we were at the travel inn. Needless to say we were extremely disappointed with the un professional manner in which our "complaint" was handled. That being said, the hotels location was great & free parking was wonderful. Our hotel room was very small but very clean. The only complaint we have is that our room was actually facing the pool and on an outdoor balcony. The room door was not insulated properly and therefore the cold would come in from the bottom and side of the door, this made the room very cold especially at night. Other than our unfortunate dispute this hotel was perfect for a week end in NY.

Room Tip: try to get a room that is not outside.

This is a very clean if a little dated hotel . It's facilities are basic but for a Manhattan base it's a good hotel . Rooms are ok size, with fridge & microwave but no kettle. The bathroom in our room, 626 needed a bit of work in the bath/ shower area. The rooms are very hot despite turning the heating off & due to the layout it didn't feel safe to leave the window open at night. It's a little unusual in that the window & door open onto an open corridor used by everyone on your floor. The elevator situation is unusual too in that you have to take one lift to floor 3 then walk around a corner & then take another to the higher floors . The walls are very thin & as guests come & go all night long , a good nights sleep is tricky. Even people chatting in their rooms seems surprisingly loud at 4 am . An unwelcome disturbance at 5 am when the occupants of room 726 decided our room was theirs. Check in was quick if not particularly friendly and we only spoke to the staff again at check out & when our key cards stopped working. There is a small gym which we didn't use & a vending machine & ice machine. The diner next door is great. The housekeeping was excellent but we forgot to leave a tip so apologise. Luggage storage for check out is available with the security guard in the parking area. Wifi available in reception & in your room but we didn't try it . Plenty of leaflets in the hotel with information about attractions, subways etc . Hotel was opposite police station so some additional noise there with sirens. Wardrobe space limited especially for a family room & not enough electrical sockets . A tv channel guide would have been helpful .

I need little when it comes to visiting NYC. This place meets all of them. The room was small but clean, and everything worked fine. the location is the real draw - it is very easy to get to, and is within walking distance to the Theater District, Madison Square Garden, and Lincoln Center. The thing that puts it over the top - FREE ONSITE PARKING!

I had read all of the reviews before travelling to NY and was a little unsure if I was going to get a good experience or bad!!
What a perfect place to base ourselves for our trip. We had a king room in the main building, facing the pool. It was quiet, very comfortable and really big compared to other hotels we've stayed in in New York. It's a quick 5 minute walk into Times Square, but far enough away to be out of the 'tourist bubble'.
The staff were always welcoming and delightful, $6.95/24 hours for wireless and free parking, doesn't get any better than that for the city that never sleeps!
Save your money for shopping, and stay here!

On the whole this hotel is good enough. The location is everything - on 42cnd and 5 mins to Times Square. And the price can be good. If you get a good deal then its OK. The rooms are a little dated, but I think they have some decent rooms, and some not as good. I think they vary.
The pool area is a nice quite haven from busy NY. If you time it right you might get some sun as well, though it is surrounded by tall buildings.
The worst issue for me was that some of the staff - or maybe as I suspect owners - don't give out a very good impression. Never a smile. Note, I say 'some' of the staff. Our room didn't have a fridge or microwave as we were expecting, so if you want these you may need to make a point of it. On the plus side though, nice big Tellies.
