Stayed for a week in oct . Hotel is old style New york you really get a feel of the past the lobby is amazing, location is bang on . We stayed in a king room which was very big, batroom was tiny and needed updating . Staff were friendly but of course they are as everytime they do something you got to tip them!! Had dinner in the bull and bear which was excellent. Had some drinks in the bar which was really nice and the bar staff were top notch. It is pricey in almost every aspect and prob not value for money at 2500 for 7 nights. But all that said i loved it ,its just the feel of the place the history that goes with it you dont get that with many hotels in the world if price isnt a problem stay there you will really feel part of New York

Room Tip: Get a king room the bed is huge and you will sleep like a baby

The hotel was great. I wanted to print something, and it was not allowed at the business center. I had to buy a printer.

I had a great time. I really liked the art deco interior.

I had breakfast at Starbucks downstairs, like I usually do at home.

Room Tip: Try to get a suite in the tower.

I really enjoyed staying at The Waldorf many years ago; but that was then and this is now - maybe I've been spoiled by fine hotels around the world, but our recent stay was nothing less than depressing.
But first, the good points: classic rooms and bathrooms from a bygone era, quiet ..... and that's all I can think of.
The bad points: our large King room was dark, dingy and the bathroom was worse than a cheap hotel in the middle of nowhere; no coffeemaker in the room; astronomical rates for food and lodging; no turndown service; zero amenities; overall service only fair.
If you are going to NYC and want a LUXURY hotel in a good location, this is NOT the place for you.
There are many other hotels in this price range which have excellent locations, much brighter rooms and better service.

Don't stay at the Waldorf-Astoria unless you stay in The Towers. The lobby is old time luxury, very impressive and grand - but that's where it stops! We stayed in a very spacious suite in the main hotel, but it was in bad need of renovation. The bath was cracked, no key to open the storage cupboard, so we had to use a knife! The wall light was flickering all the time (unless it didn't come on at all). The air conditioning was noisy. But I have to say the bed was very comfortable and the linens luxurious.
In addition there was a very long queue in the lobby for reception to check in (whenever we went past this was the case). I also had to telephone the hotel urgently one afternoon - it took four calls, as they were busy and they kept hanging up. The coffee shop closed at 1.30 lunchtime! When we asked for coffee after a very mediocre limited menu lunch (admittedly it was a Saturday - but should this make a difference at a top class hotel?) we were told they had closed now, and we would have to transfer to the lobby lounge for a coffee!
I can't think of one reason why I would ever stay there again - and certainly would not recommend it. However we were told that The Towers block was fine.

We were apprehensive after reading other TA reviews, wondering if we were about to encounter a problem. NONE. Our King room was spacious and spotless. While it did not have much of a view because it was in the center of the hotel, it was extremely quiet. The staff was always helpful and gracious. We were there during the Al Smith dinner and the hotel operated flawlessly. Only folks staying in the Towers had to deal with FBI SWAT, and they were treated well.

Much of the hotel has been meticulously re-furbished to the era of it's origins. The art deco detail is amazing. It's like staying in a museum with room service.

My only complaint was that the common areas of the hotel were really, really cold. Arctic cold for women in fancy dresses. Not so bad for men in suits. Seems like that could be fixed.

To save money in Manhattan, walk over to Hell's Kitchen or even a local diner or pizza by the slice joint. Don't eat (or drink) in the hotels. Stop at a convenience store and buy your water and snacks. There are plenty to choose from. Take the subway. Ask the NYPD cops for directions.

Also, I don't like bugs of any kind, but reading some of the TA reviews makes me wonder if a more serious fear of bugs colors reaction to rooms. We found ZERO evidence of bugs of any kind, and we were at the WA for several nights. No bugs. No bites. Nada.

Enjoy the Waldorf. It's history is pretty cool.

Room Tip: the hotel is shaped like an "H". For quiet, get a room on the "bridge" of the "H." Photos provided by the hotel were completely accurate to us.
