Very convenient for theater district, shopping and other attractions. Facility and rooms were clean and spacious, but I would not recommend interior room due to lack of outside light. Lobby restaurant serves a nice selection of breakfast items and fresh coffee and pastries are served on the lower level each morning. Staff was very courteous and helpful.

Also attended a catered evening function that was well done

Room Tip: Request exterior room when booking.

We have stayed five times at the Michelangelo and would never consider another hotel. The Michelangelo's perfect location, excellent staff, and large luxurious rooms keep us coming back time and time again. It has the perfect contrast between the hyper stimulation of the City and the relaxed, elegant, peaceful feel of the hotel. Wonderful place to come back to after a busy day.
For the best experience ask for an exterior room. Interior rooms are dark and have no view. Also ask for a room on the upper floors to mitigate street noise. They do have a continental breakfast included with the room although it only amounts to pastries, coffee, and tea. There is a prepared food store a few steps down the street from the hotel entrance for low cost snacks and food.

Room Tip: Upper floor exterior room.

This hotel had no view what so ever, you just see wall from your windows.
room was small.
furnitures in the room was classy or more like outdated? i am not sure what to call it.
the lobby area have same theme, classic .
recommended for people who are not looking for typical modern room/hotel.
location was ok.

Thank you for the review. We would love to see you again. Please let us know prior to your next stay and we will give you a room with a view of 7th Ave or 51st Street. Please note a lot of our guests prefer the courtyard view which tend to be a little quieter.

We stayed in this hotel in 2007 and had a great experience which we shared on TripAdvisor. However, our recent stay was totally the opposite.

We received an email with a special promotional rate. Unfortunately, the rate was only good for two of the four nights and the other two nights were significantly more. But, we decided to stay at the Michelangelo any way. The reservation staff was very cordial and helpful....we were soon to find out that was where that level of guest services ended.

The check in was basically "here's your key, now don't bother me." That continued to be the front desk attitude as well as the bartender and breakfast room staff. The dungeon environment of the breakfast area was made even more unpleasant with an attendant who could not even acknowledge a "good morning". The concierge was the only staff who seemed interested in helping guests, and we appreciated his help.

The final blow was when I asked to borrow a scissors, and the front desk very haughtily told me they did not have any because guests did not return them when they were borrowed. I said surely there were some scissors somewhere. He "huffed and puffed" and went in search. When he returned fairly quickly with scissors, he insisted I use them in the lobby....come on! At least, another front desk staff intervened and said I could take the scissors to my room, but needed to bring them back quickly.

In addition to our disappointment with the service, the hotel is in need of some renovation and basic maintenance....i.e. chipped paint, stained carpet, old televisions, etc. The rooms are large, however. We also found it odd that only one chocolate was left at turn down and only one pair of slippers placed in the room when obviously two people were staying there.

We had planned to stay four nights, but checked after three because we were so disappointed with our experience. Yes, this hotel is in an excellent location and we had previously recommended it to others traveling to NYC. We certainly will not again. It is not a good value for the level of service, quality of rooms and experience.

Lovely boutique hotel right in the hub of the action but far enough away from the noise of Times Square. When you're in New York City, especially Times Square, you spend most of your time outside the hotel, but what was lovely about the Michelangelo is that once you enter, you feel like you have entered a different world and slow down a little. Even though our room faced out onto the street, we heard barely any street noise. The room was a nice size, the tub great!
