Reviewed April 6, 2013

This hotel is right next to my office in midtown so staying there for business was a no brainer. Clearly for others it might not be so great but its as good a location as the plaza or the wardorf etc so I am sure people would like it.
The rooms are huge by new york standards although very few of them have much natural light because of the nature of the building - but that only means they are quieter.
They are very well appointed rooms. Even the bathrooms are by US standards very good with very large tubs and large bathrooms. With bathrooms that big however it would have been a great idea to have a walk in shower.
Now what this hotel is not , is a full service hotel. Its good for the business man who needs laundry and breakfast and some room service options but you pay for internet and service is not what you expect of a hotel - you even pay to use the power adaptors which is annoying although to be fair you get to keep the thing (but it is around 25 bucks!). In general the service is slow and not responsive and also the concierge is not particularly good, but again its more becase this is a high end serviced appartment rather than a hotel. The lobby and the corridors are all very nice and speak of a sort of bygone era when in the 30's people would go to this type of hotel and feel they were in italy - in fact it is not at all in the style of hotels in italy now but it is done very nicely particularly in the lifts and the lithographs all over the hotel are nice.
Overall I like this a lot and stay there often. The rooms can be good value if you manage to book some of the deals they have for around 220 dollars and are very big and you can sometimes get a junior suite for 270 dollars approx which is nice.
Just misses out on the excellent though :(

We always stay at the Michelangelo when visiting New York City. It is in a great location - close to Times Square and the theater district. The lobby is beautiful and warm. We have been upgraded several times upon check-in to a suite, Always a nice surprise. Most comfortable beds I have ever slept in while traveling. We always recommend this hotel to friends who are traveling to New York.

Loved our stay. We arrived early on a red eye and the staff was kind enough to call us as soon as a room was ready for early checking. They also upgraded our room and went out of there way to be sure we were happy. Our bellman was super helpful, he has been at the property for over twenty years and was super fun and professional. The property is beautiful, the location great! Never heard a peep from street noise, but your close enough to walk most places. Great European vibe. Loved it!

Nice boutique hotel which offers a lot of good: great location, big room for NYC, very good service, perfectly clean. We stayed four nights and it was perfect for me, my wife and my daughter. We were able to visit everything we wanted by walk and even though it was pretty close to Times Square, it was still very quiet at night. We enjoyed it a lot and would definitely go back. On the minus side, I would say it's very expensive but since it was paid by my employer, I can't really complain!

We went to NYC for an overnight visit to celebrate my daughter's birthday. (She is in grad school in Manhattan.) We found a great price online and booked the room. When we arrived (too early for check-in), the front desk clerk immediately upgraded our room to a Junior Suite. The room was the very antithesis of a typical NYC hotel room. It was beautiful, LARGE and extremely comfortable. The location was ideal...just a few blocks from Times Square and theater district, without all the noise. We could have had a full breakfast in the lounge area, but instead chose the FREE continental breakfast in the basement. It's a very nice room, with a selection of coffees, teas and juice, plus croissants, muffins and scones. It was the perfect start to our day. The bellman held our bag, while we spent the day with our daughter. It was just a lovely experience all around and if I could afford it, or if I find another great online deal, I'd stay there in a heartbeat. Just note, the decor is very, um, old fashioned...but in a charming way.

Really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. We spent two nights there just after New Years (a tip - that's a great time to go to New York and this hotel as the rates were excellent!) Room was pristine and location second to none. As a family we have stayed in New York several times and would confess that this may have been our favourite. Lobby bar lacks atmosphere but it's the lobby....bar. On your doorstep, within 100m, there are a plethora of restaurants, bars, gift shops and stores. Slip outside, jink right, stride forward, have a swift coffee, catch you breath, tighten your belt and you are in the heart of NYC!
