Without question, the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. I arrived into an undersized room (the door banged against the bed), the toilet hadn't even been cleaned after the last tenant was and there was rotting food (and worse) under the bed. I was moved to a 'suite' which was sightly larger but, I would never stay there again. The staff was accommadating, but I should have never been put in that position in the first place.

If you buy this hotel on hotwire or priceline you will get a great value because it is in a primo location--- just off 5th Ave at 44th street-- But the rooms are unbelievably tiny-----If you pay....."full" price you will feel totally ripped off..

After reading the reviews on this site, I was not looking forward to staying in this hotel. However, when we arrived I was so pleasantly surprised. The small lobby was decorated with candles creating beautiful soft lighting and a very relaxed feel. The rooms were not as small as I had expected and we had ample room for our two large suitcases. The ensuite was maybe a little small but was adequate - we didn't have to sit sideways on the loo like some other reviewers! Breakfast was great for a quick bite before heading out for a day's sightseeing from the very centrally located hotel. The only reason I did not give this hotel an exellent rating was because our room was overlooking 44th St and from the 4th floor, the noise of the traffic was still pretty loud so I would recommend requesting a room away from the street. The staff were very laid back, almost to the point of being nonchalant but in saying that, we had a problem with the plumbing in the ensuite and it was repaired immediately. All in all, I'd recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a nice place to stay in a great location.

I've stayed in hotels in 12 countries and in 30 states in this country. Only one has disappointed as much as did the Mansfield. At a price tag of $400 you do not expect (i)metal TV stand from the Goodwill store (ii)plastic peeling from the bathtub, (iii)marble floors that have not been polished in 20 years and (iv)floors where you debated over whether or not to walk without slippers - there was no carpet, just a very thin strraw "pad". The rooms are small and I can live with that & fully expect it in a city. The hallways on the 10th floor are so narrow that it is difficult to pass by the service cart that the chambermaids use.

The hotel has location & a clean & comfortable bar & lobby. The staff was friendly and helpful. Beyond that, you would be better to stay in the suburbs @ a Days Inn & commute in each morning in a limo - and likely save $.

With a facelift this could be a relatively nice hotel. At $400 a night the owners should clearly be able to afford renovations unless their occupancy rate is so low that they are struggling.

If you want to party the night away in the the Big Apple, this is the hotel for you. Dark tiny rooms will help you sleep the day away. Monochromely decorated, be sure to wear black to blend in. Good location, great photography, cool, narrow marble staricases. The bathrooms will suit the svelte.
