This Hotel is truly a gem! Discreet with understated elegance and low key luxury. If you are looking for flashy this is not the place to go but if you love discretion, class and efficency this hotel has it all. My room although rather small was very comfortable with good closet space and the kitchenette was really a plus. Service is exceptional in all aspects. As for location it is not the best for me as I generally prefer to be closer to downtown, but it is a short walking distance to the subway and many bus lines on Lex, Madison and Fifth.

The rooms are on the small side, although the bathrooms are quite large for NYC. In addition, you will pay a pretty penny to stay here. Setting aside these issues, if money is no object this is a great option -- the service is wonderful. The staff goes out of their way to meet guests' every need, the room service is on-point (especially for a small hotel), and housekeeping is meticulous in their cleaning of rooms and facilities. The location of the hotel is also quite stellar, right off Madison Avenue. And if you like to smoke cigars, Club Macanudo is next door.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at The Lowell. It provides under-stated luxury in a quiet and comfortable manner. It's located in a quiet residential neighborhood on 63rd between Madison & Park. There are lots of good restaurants within a short walking distance. The subway is two blocks to the F line at 63rd and about 5 blocks to the Lex lines at 59th. Arriving and departing from JFK is easy using the F & E lines.

My room had comfortable seating, a separate shower with a great head and lots of hot water. Toiletries are over-sized Bulgari. Internet access is free, but had some hiccups. It worked fine most of the time, but sometimes was slow for logging on and downloading. Room lighting is excellent--there are bright lights everywhere, with dimmers on the two bathroom switches. My room was spacious. Decor is homey with furnishings in good condition and the room was clean and well maintained. Breakfast and the concierge were both excellent.

On the less favorable side, the thermostats did not seem to be accurate and I had to set them extra high to get the room warm enough. It was ok when I did that. The HVAC is an upgraded window-type unit that produces a draft if you're near it. But it is quiet. The fireplace created a smoky odor even though I never used it. There was an air purifier in the room, but it didn't seem to do much even though I kept it on most of the time. The room smelled as smoky when I left as when I arrived. I recommend a room without a fireplace.

All in all, I liked The Lowell and will return.

We stayed here the first night of our honeymoon 12 years ago. I'm a native New Yorker, and have never been disappointed. This hotel is brilliant through and through. From the amenities, to the decor of the rooms each is individually appointed with the ultimate in taste. We have come on innumerable trips to New York from Philly, my family lives in NYC, and have always been pleased with everything. A small discreet hotel with all the amenities of a larger chain. Location is terrific, midtown close to everything we needed. We come back time and again and are always thrilled. We just discovered the hotel is dog friendly so we may even bring our dogs on our next trip. Apparently the concierge will walk the dogs for you--how great is that? You cannot beat this hotel for its charm and service it raises the bar to any other hotel in the city.

We stayed at The Lowell for one night. A friend of us recommended the hotel. As a surprise we recieved an upgrade to a suite. The suite was magnificent and decorated by a famous interiour decorator.
The style of the hotel is English with a tearoom in English style. Also our suite was in English style, but with a modern touch. The location of the hotel is very centered in on the Upper East side. Fairly close to subway and close to shopping and Central Park. Also by taxi it takes about 30-45 minutes to JFK, which we heard is fairly short.
The service was very good, the staff was very polite. We experienced three little flaws which were that we had to call reception for our complementary welcome drink and the roomservice we orderd at night took about 45 min in stead of the prommised 30 min. The third thing is that the wireless internet wasn't working very well, but we were in no immediate need for that.
The staff at the frontdesk was very helpfull and always asked if we needed anything. The hotel is very nice and an absolute must go if you want to spend a nice, discrete, quiet and relaxing holiday in NYC.

My husband and I really enjoyed our most recent stay at The Lowell. We typically get a room with a bedroom, living room, kitchenette and fireplace. It is such a lovely, intimate respite with low-key staff and a location that really works for us. It is pricey, even by NYC standards, but we are never disappointed.

If you prefer classic over modern fusion, this is the right hotel to stay at. A truly proper, elegant five star hotel with spacious rooms and an unbeatable location. Some of the rooms are better than others, but there's just no way to go wrong. Staff is high quality, polite unlike many other places that seem to be cutting corners these days.
