“Great location but not what I expected”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 31, 2011

The hotel's location is fantastic however -the following points should be considered before booking:

1. It is very discrete - however, the service for me was a bit impersonal at times
2. The hotel has more of a serviced apartment/ B&B feel - this is fine if its what you are looking for - but a bit souless. The public areas are very small and there is no bar
4. The decor in the public areas as well as the restaurant is dated - lots of floral patterns and chintz
5. The rooms are very well appointed and reasonably large - do ask for one of the renovated ones

I am glad I experienced The Lowell - but for me - if you are looking at staying in this area - The Surrey does it much better at a lesser price. Even if both were the same price I would go for the surrey

Boutique hotels nowadays try to be edgy and modern but this hotel is a classic hidden gem. I've been staying in so many contemporary style hotels lately I forgot how lovely it can be to stay somewhere with old world charm. Every touch speaks quality, Bulgari amenities, soft fluffy towels embroidered with "L", Wedgewood cutlery... The only flaw I could find in this hotel was the tv in the bathroom. It is mounted above the tub but if you're inside the tub you can't see anything because it doesn't tilt down. Otherwise everything was fabulous.

The Lowell is like having your own apartment in the Upper East Side. The rooms are large, luxe, spotless, cozy, and there is a little kichenette in each room. The location is perfect, right on 63rd and Madison, easy to get to theater or downtown. The people at the desk and Concierge are always helpful as are the doormen. And internet is free, as it should be.

I recently stayed in this wonderful and real Boutique Hotel in New York, the building has a lot of charm and the location is so elegant upper east side.
The staff is really nice, having real attention to the guests. The rooms and bathroom are very comfortable and large, even if mine was bit noisy due to the central AC in the backyard.
The reception area is small yet very charming and you feel at home with the scents of fresh flowers, soft drinks available.
I do regret the breakfast which is quite poor for the price.

Room Tip: Ask for room with a balcony

Wow. Worth the money. We've stayed there several times and have never been disappointed. Stayed in one of their smallest, least expensive rooms and it was beautiful and well appointed. Only "problem" was that the view from the window looked down upon other exterior walls, not the street, but this meant the room was extraordinarily quiet for NYC. The service is wonderful; they manage to meet and anticipate every need without being obsequious or fawning. A gem of a NY hotel.

Room Tip: they're all good!

Stayed here in March for a week and was treated like a member of the family, all staff were warm, welcoming and friendly. Special mention of Lovely Dutch girl in the Pembrooke room and the fabulous doorman, sorry dont remember their name, but they made me feel welcome everytime i stepped out and in..

Very good room facilities, comfortable bed, mini bar is really high standard and has got excellent choice, room service and dinner at posthouse all brilliant.

Location was wonderful, as it felt safe, and quiet and residential , as if I was coming home every night!
Thank you everyone at the Lowell, i will definately recommend and come back!
