Staying at the Lombardy involves compromise. The good stuff: The location is superb. The rooms are huge by NYC hotel standard. Very quiet. Staff friendly. The not so good stuff: Our room was shabby at best. Furnished with what looked like an assortment of cast-offs from someone's attic or basement. Bathroom vanity doors hanging off hinges, tub old and scarred with antique (not in the good way) drain and stopper. Beds rock hard. The kitchenette was a bit scary and I wouldn't think of using it; the way it was furnished it certainly had no place in a Park Avenue property. For the location and size of rooms, the value is good but this is not the elegant upscale property I expected based on other reviews here.

Great location, close to 5th avenue and Central Park. We stayed there for the New Year Eve and as a base for shopping and visiting. Was very convenient.
We can not complain about the room as we were unexpectedly upgraded to a suite (no room available despite early booking months before).
If you like genuine American breakfast, forget about the hotel one. But it is enough for a light Continental-like breakfast.
Staff was OK, a bit too stylish.
All in all, this was quite a good stay and we enjoyed it very much.

Stayed here with my wife after a business trip. Its a wonderful looking and positioned hotel.
Breakfast, well, its there but its not much and you dont realy need it. when in NY, have breakfast outside like everybody else. Much more fun as well.

The room we were given was extremely big with a all mirror hallway, a kitchenette, walk in closet, big bed en nice bathroom.
but it was difficult if not impossible to turn down the heating in the bathroom.

Not much of a view either but we could compensate by watching the large TV opposite the bed.

It located near the south east corner of Central Par. this measn you are in the area of luxury and offices. its not the most 'fun' part of NY but evrything is easily reached anyway.

The bar adjacent (were you have the breakfast served, well serf-serviced, in the morning) has a wonderful barkeeper. Let him advise you what to drink and enjoy.

I’ve been traveling to Manhattan for business for about 5-10 hotel nights/year for 25 years and over the years have stayed at many of the big hotels…Grand Hyatt on 42nd St, Marriott at Times Square, The Plaza, The Waldorf Astoria, The Essex House and many others. I discovered the Lombardy 15 hears ago and have stayed there exclusively since then. It is a small boutique hotel on 56th St between Park and Lex. The rooms are enormous by any standard but especially for NYC. Since the building is a co-op, every room is either a studio or one bedroom apt with a kitchen. Since each room is individually owned they are all decorated differently but the décor is controlled centrally by the hotel management. An earlier post complained of the décor looking dated. I disagree…I’ve stayed in probably 15 different rooms and every one of them is professionally decorated, each with different themes. They are all updated on a regular basis. All of the decorating is high-end, custom or semi-custom design and freshly done. In fact, it’s always fun to see what theme you are going to get in any given room. It is absolutely the quietest hotel that I have ever visited. The staff are true professionals and the service level is high. Everything you need to live is within a city block…restaurants, diners, delis, bars, drug store, etc. The subway is 2 blocks away at 54th and Lex. Staying at the Lombardy is like having your own high-end apartment in Manhattan.

The Lombardy had rooms that were nicely appointed, and of the size you expect when you visit any where other than NYC. My wife and I stayed one night. We came in by train, arriving in grand central. Its walking distance to the hotel, which was nice. You can also walk to the park, or towards the shopping on 5th. Great location. Beds were comfy, good shower, and a nice TV, but who'd ever turn it on when you've got all the attractions of NYC outside? The continental breakfast was free, nothing special there. Staff was helpful, and the bar was good too. Nothing's cheap in NYC, so be prepared.

We would stay here again despite the few minuses.
Pros:
• Clean and comfortable
• Spacious Room w/large flat screen TV
• Kitchenette w/microwave, range & refrigerator
• Great location, only three blocks from subway
• Large closet
• Great value for the money
Cons:
• Smallish bathroom in need of new wallpaper and paint
• Ubiquitous New York blasé attitude from staff
