“Best Marriott Value in Manhattan”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 14, 2012

The Carlton has become my new favorite hotel in Manhattan. I made at least five stays after it moved to Marriott in 2012 from March to November. I found the Carlton's rates are better than other Manhattan Marriott properties and a much better value and experience - the location on Madison is superb with lots of excellent dining, night spots and shopping.

The hotel restaurant, Millesime, really makes the Carlton hotel sparkle. Millesime is like stepping from Manhattan and into a Parisian brasserie. Chef Laurent's caesar salad is worthy of its acclaim, the head bartender, Jack, is a master mixologist, and the nightly live entertainers performing create an amazingly cool scene. The Happy Hour drink and oyster specials are the best value in this part of town.

The Carlton is ideal for friends, couples and those flying solo who want an affordable indulgence.

Room Tip: The most spacious rooms are the executives with two beds - incredibly spacious for Manhattan standar...

Lovely hotel located on Madison Avenue - a great neighborhood and close walk to the Empire State Building and Macy's. The hotel is beautiful inside and has classic hotel bones. The staff was very friendly and the rooms were nicely furnished. Our "cozy" room was just as advertised, but was perfect for our quick stay. The downside was there was no coffeemaker in the room, and the coffee machine in the guest lounge on the lobby floor is way, way too slow for the number of people who want coffee. If you're there on a Sunday, be sure and take in Marble Collegiate Church - it's only a block away.

We loved the location, close to subway 28th street, and walk able to Empire state area. Not too busy around hotel, so a bit of an oasis of calm. On arrivals at 2:30pm we were told we would have to wait for our room as the hotel had been full the nigh before, which was a bit annoying seeing as check in time was only 30 minutes away. The first room we were given was on the noisy corner of Madison on the second floor, no account of my husbands Marriott platinum status and profile had been taken account of, we asked to move rooms and the staff were obliging. They helped us move luggage to new room on 8th floor which was much better. For platinum and gold members there is a ore than ample continental breakfast which includes hot scramlded eggs, same every day so does get a bit repetitive if you are there all week (free breakfast not at weekends). 24 hour gym adequately equipped perhaps some additional Pilates equipment needed. Would consider staying here again.

Room Tip: Ask for one away from Madison avenue and high up.

Good hotel in the heart of Manhatten Close to Empire State building and 5th Avenue. Rooms are not big, in typical american style but noisy as windows are old and not noisy protected. .Beds are convenient. Lobby is historically looking made in Art Nuovo style. Breakfast is real american and very good.

Stayed for 2 nights in Dec.2012-Xmas shopping and show. Car service to Broadway was worth the splurge---$35 for three people in the rain! Later than evening Returning from downtown was impossible to get a taxi so depending on what you are planning to do it might be a bit of a walk.... Our room was quite small as others have mentioned. Overall very European feel (like the Russelll in London...). Nice and quiet. Breakfast was nice. Car overnight parking is pricey. But so is NY!!

Every year, my wife and two adult daughters travel to NYC the week-end after Thanksgiving. And as such, I am the responsible person that makes (and most of the times pays for) the hotel accommodations for these past 16 years. I never look forward to picking them up at the airport when they return from NYC because the ride home always is sprinkled with criticisms they had with the hotel I chose, specifically the unresponsive hotel staff, the cleanliness of the room, the marginal performance of housekeeping, etc. Well, TODAY, the ride home from the airport with the girls was VERY different because they stayed at the Carlton. Enough could not be said about the overall experience at the hotel. In fact, when they got in the car, they chimed in, "BEST EVER'!
They proceeded to tell me that the front desk personnel were outstanding, housekeeping was unbelievably efficient and thorough and even the bell services they received was top notch. They could not say enough about what a wonderful stay that they had. Bottom line, it was the people of the Carlton that made the very big difference in their stay as they looked after all needs that my girls had during their stay. I was given orders that to make sure that their 2013 trip was at the Carlton.

Room Tip: My girls stayed in Room 825, and that is the room that they want next year!

The hotel was so so to me. The staff wasn't the friendliest- some were really nice though. Nice comfy hallways leading to the rooms. Very small rooms, but maybe that's to be expected for a NYC hotel. You don't get a lot for your money here. Internet was about $13 for 15 minutes!!! With what you pay for one night, it should be free. If you do stay here, ASK TO BE AWAY FROM MADISON AVE. SIDE BECAUSE OF LOUDDDDDDD CLUB ACROSS THE STREET, which made sleeping difficult. There were two altercations on two separate nights where the cops had to be called. I was given free breakfast passes at check-in which was nice, but it was complimentary, which I'm not a fan of.
