What is there not to love about this hotel? The decor is inspired and all of the staff are smiling and helpful! Yes the rooms are a tad on the small side but they are thoughtfully designed and nicely appointed. It is English major nirvana and the staff is exceedingly patient with the many requests to admire, be seated at, and take a selfie at the round table. We enjoyed having a cocktail in the bar and sitting in the lobby bar for a cup of coffee. Great people watching and you just want to soak up the style and charm of the place. If you love historic hotels and traveling this way you will not be disappointed. Great midtown location good for December festivities. Six blocks to Rockefeller Plaza. Would love to return!

I read the rooms were very smal so I booked a king suite and it was lovely! The separate living room was plenty of space and the suite was well appointed. The bathroom was small but expected for the age of the hotel. The hotel staff were exceptionally pleasant. The lobby area is charming and a great place to sit to enjoy a cup of coffee or cocktail. The location is terrific if you prefer to locate yourseld in Midtown. The only service issue I had was the TV is the bedroom was not working and I called and reported it and no one ever came to fix the TV. From a value perspective, I thought the rates were very high; however, it was December in NYC!

Room Tip: Choose a suite if you can!

Thank you for your business and for staying with The Algonquin over the holidays in New York City. On behalf of the team, we apologize for not properly repairing the TV located in the bedroom of your suite and appreciate the time you took to let us know it was not functioning correctly for you.
The hotel does look forward to welcoming you back on a future NYC visit. Happy 2014!

This is a lovely hotel in a central location and a great value for what we paid on Hotwire. Itruly enjoyed my stay but if I paid the rack rate I would have been disappointed because of the room size. The bed was super comfy, nicely tiled shower, plenty of hot water & towels, L'Occitane bath products, flat screen TV good reading lights, safe, iron & board, warm and cozy. However, this is a room that would only fit two, maximum. Even the addition of a small child would be claustrophobic. Great ambiance downstairs, would have liked to linger and enjoyed a glass of wine but am too cheap to spend $18+ for a drink, very costly bar menu.

This place is so charming. Was my room small? Yes. But that's okay. Everyone there was helpful and cheery, and having a drink in the lobby is fabulous. (I also had a club sandwich in the lobby, which was also fabulous.) The place has clearly been renovated -- the front desk looks weirdly stuck in the 80s -- but the rooms are still charming and cozy and VERY New York. Location is great, too. This is where I stay when I book my own trips to NYC for pleasure.

We all know: New York hotel rooms are small, receptionists sometimes rude, noise unbearable, decoration tasteless, and always too expensive. Not so at the Algonquin, one of the, if not the oldest hotel in town. Smiling door man, smiling reception girls, smiling waiters, nice rooms, nice breakfast, posh atmosphere but not overloaded, and a great location.

This hotel is absolutely gorgeous from the time to step foot in the lobby. It feels like you stepped back in time, but everything is completely up to date. The bathroom in the room is small but luxurious, with great water pressure in the shower and L'Occitane bath products. The bed and bed linens are wonderful, and they even have a makeup mirror on the desk so that you can get ready while someone else is in the bathroom. The staff is exceptional as well. Free Starbucks in the business center is a nice plus. I would highly recommend for all travelers.

Recently had a lovely stay at this hotel. The service from the hotel staff whether it be for check in, room service, daily cleaning of the room was top notch. The location in midtown Manhattan is very central and one is able to walk to Broadway shows, Rockefeller Center, shopping etc.
The room itself was nicely appointed with first class amenities included e.g. in the bathroom and the bed. Would stay at this hotel again in a heartbeat.
