The elegance and charm of hotel makes it easy to fit right in. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The rooms are small but nice. The staff gave me the history of the hotel which I found delightful. It is close to all the places I needed.

Greetings and thank you on behalf of the Algonquin team for taking time to post a review about your recent visit to the historic and iconic Algonquin, Autograph Collection. The hotel will be 111 years young in another few weeks and was renovated in 2012 from guts to décor, being careful to retain our historic tie in to the authenticity of New York City and the literary landmark the hotel has become.
Feedback is a gift and we are grateful you took the time to share your comments.
Warm Regards

The most important was the great location and the easy access to everything. The overall atmosphere was very nice. The staff was very kind and friendly. The room was very small for two but it was also very clean.

The ambience is unique and fun. I enjoy staying at the historic hotels. The staff were pleasant. The wi-fi is complementary. Very near Times Square, but without the chaos. The fitness center provided bottled water complementary and the 2nd floor lounge area offered complementary hot drinks as well. We stayed in the Barrymore Suite which has one of the largest TVs I have seen. There was ample room. Split level with a pullout bed on the lower level. Great for families or traveling with friends.

We chose the Algonquin because of a good weekend rate and the fact that we wanted a weekend in New York without the 'cookie cutter' hotel experience. We were not disappointed.

We arrived at the hotel from the airport at around 9:30 am and expected to leave our bags and return to check in after a day in the city. We were surprised when the person at check in told us our room was available and we could check in then. Service was fast and friendly.

Our room was on the 6th floor, and as other reviews state, was a small room, but that's what you get in NY. It was beautifully decorated with a very comfortable bed and a very nice modern bathroom. A tub would have been nice after a long day walking around the city, but again, small rooms are the norm in NY and the shower was a good one. Our one disappointment was the view. It looked out onto the roof below and walls on all three sides. But still, for the rate we got it was hard to complain at that one thing missing.

Throughout our stay everyone we encountered was friendly and helpful. We loved the early 20th century feel to the public areas. If you want big rooms and a wide open, modern lobby, probably best to hit somewhere else, but for a beautiful old hotel with a ton of character and history, plus modern, comfortable rooms, the Algonquin works just fine. We will be looking forward to our next stay.

My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights recently. We have been to New York on many occassions and know that hotel rooms in NYC tend to be smaller than hotel rooms in many other cities. That being said, however, we were shocked at how tiny our room was. We could barely move. I have been in walk-in closets that are much larger than the room we had! The other downside was that the window didn't let in any natural light, so the room was constantly dark. It felt like the middle of the night in the middle of the day. It became a bit depressing after awhile.

After 2 days of falling over each other in our dark, closet-like room, I asked if we could be moved. The front desk staff were obliging and we got moved to a slightly larger room with a window that looked out over the street. The downside of that was the street noise, but fortunately, the aircon/fan in the room created enough white noise to drown out the sounds of the city.

If our initial room had been larger and lighter, I would have given this hotel a higher rating. We found the front desk staff to be friendly and accommodating. The location was very convenient and close to many attractions, restaurants, and subway lines. The coffee stations in the lobby and on the 2nd floor were nice touches, which we made good use of. The rooms themselves are well decorated with upscale furnishings. Overall, this is a quaint hotel with a charming, old-world feel. I'm sure some of the rooms are much nicer than the ones we had; it's just unfortunate that we initially got a room that would be better served as a storage closet.

Greetings and thank you for taking time to provide The Algonquin feedback on your recent visit to the hotel and New York City. We are pleased to know you found the team at the hotel to be cordial and accommodating to your requests and that the amenities we offer are considered special and unique. Some of our guest rooms are less big than others and all are appointed in a very distinct manner giving them a welcoming and residential feeling. By asking to have your room changed, you were able to see another type of guest accommodation that we have to offer, more importantly, the hotel was able to accommodate your request for a room change. Thank you again for taking time to provide us with your feedback.
