We love The Surrey and have stayed here many times. It is a wonderful hotel in a great location. The staff are very accomodating and go out of their way to be helpful.
The bar is a great spot for an afternoon refresher and there is sidewalk seating if you prefer.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the front of the hotel for the views. We had rooms 1203 and 1209 and they were t...

I stayed at The Surrey for 2 nights for our honeymoon. We were checked in by Vanessa who was fantastic, by far one of the best. Our bellman took us to our room and explained everything in great detail. The concierge Michael helped us with 3 fabulous restaurants. The valets opened our trunk and asked if I was happy with the way the luggage was prepared for our departure. One of the doormen knew we were going to a special exhibit at The MoMa and asked us if we needed detailed directions. This level of service is very, very rare. There is a level of graciousness here that is almost non-existent anymore in hotels. Once again, Vanessa, you were incredible!

We are just about to come to the end of a five night stay at The Surrey - as part of a surprise trip to NYC from my lovely husband. Amazing hotel with fantastic, friendly and helpful staff, rooms were immaculate with the world's most powerful shower!! Huge comfortable beds great after a day sightseeing. Most perfect location and so close to Central Park. Some really great diners nearby too - we would recommend Viand.

We have spent the last five days in luxury - thank you.

We are staying here for a few days on holiday without the children as an anniversary treat. It is a lovely hotel - comfortable, chic and in a great location. Friendly staff checked us in to a great room with the most comfortable bed and beautiful cotton sheets. It's not cheap but nothing really is here. Overall highly recommended for slice of uptown luxury.

Our first stay in New York was enhanced by staying at The Surrey for 5 nights.
The room, hotel and service was impeccable. The staff were beyond helpful; in particular Lubna and both Michael's. They were always friendly with suggestions, advice and in making reservations. The hotel itself is sleek luxury, the decor was beautiful. The drinking and dining establishments within the hotel - Bar Pleades and Cafe Boloud were 5 star.
We didn't want to leave!

Built in 1926 as a residence hotel, the original Surrey was home to many of New York's most eccentric celebrities. JFK, Bette Davis, Claudette Colbert, and other famous faces who recognized the allure of exceptional, discreet service. In re-creating The Surrey, we collaborated with acclaimed interior designer Lauren Rottet of Rottet Studio—to maintain the integrity of The Surrey’s history while modernizing New York's most intimate address. Rottet's inspiration was a New York City townhouse passed down through the generations. The Surrey is New York City’s only Relais & Chateaux boutique hotel, where discreet service allows guests to retreat from the public—and keep a low profile in an otherwise high profile lifestyle. The Surrey is a residential haven and luxury Upper East Side hotel getaway where guests access and revel in what makes New York City special—without compromising calm personal space. ... more   less
