Just got back from a 5 night stay at the Hotel Stanford and have to say it was brilliant, the staff upon arrival were very friendly and obliging. The room was clean and spacious, and as stated in publicity free toiletries were provided and were of a reasonable quality. Ok our room didn't have a view, but who sits in their room when they are visiting the city that never sleeps. We were up every morning at 7.30 so breakfast was no problem and it was more than adequate considering it was complimentary, delicious cake and pastries, bagels and tea, coffee and juice. Location was fantastic you were literally staying beneath the Empire State building and it was just a few yards from a main subway station. There is also free tea and coffee throughout the afternoon. All in all we would recommend this hotel to any one. Despite the negative reviews regarding the solitary lift, we never had a problem throughout our stay, I know we have gone slightly out of season, but personally I think it's the best time to visit. Thank you to all at the Stanford for making our holiday perfect.

After researching many hotels in NYC and then being recommended by a friend we decided to book the Hotel Stanford for our 7 night stay. It was a great stay. We were celebrating our 10 year wedding anniversary and upon arrival were upgraded to a junior suite and greeted with a complimentary bottle of wine and water.

The hotel is within walking distance to most attractions and areas. The free breakfast is a good start to the day and considering we found we were not eating again until around 3pm, the breakfast was enough to keep us going.

The room was cleaned everyday and early too which made it nice to return in the middle of the day to a clean room.

The staff were helpful and friendly and we would recommend this hotel and would definitely stay again.

We stayed here in April over a long weekend. I was impressed with the location and the friendly staff. Check-in was easy. We were given two key cards and the code for free wifi and sent to the 11th floor. The room was average size, clean. There was a queen size bed, wide screen TV with cable, small fridge, iron and board, safe. There was no coffee maker, but they have a free breakfast downstairs each morning and free coffee till 4. Our view was of the brick wall next door. The hotel is near several Korean restaurants. There is a great coffee and pastry shop a few doors down. Location was really good. Very close to the Garden and Penn station. Subway on the corner of the block. We'd stay here again.

Room Tip: Only one small elevator. It fills up as it goes down. I'd stay on an upper floor.

For the price the standard and particularly the location of this hotel makes it an excellent choice for visitors to NYC who want to spend their cash doing stuff rather than sleeping on it. It's 5 minutes walk from Penn Station, which is an easy train journey from/to Newark Liberty, same distance from Madison Square Garden, 10/15 minutes walk to Times Square, same to the Flatiron Building. Our room on the third floor had twin beds at no extra charge, bath and shower, and all the other amenities you would expect. Continental breakfast was in with the price - coffee good, croissants better than many I've had in France, but get down before 9.00am if you don't want to have to queue. Staff friendly and helpful. Yes the lift is small but if you're not too high up you can walk. We used the bar at happy hour once - a lively meeting spot but not one I personally was taken with. We had to ask for an extra blanket each - they were delivered to our room within 15 minutes. I would go again and will recommend to friends.

Room Tip: We were at the back/side of the hotel away from bustling 32nd Street (Korea Town) so it was very qui...

We stayed here for 4 nights. I didn't have high expectations because it's a 3* in the centre of New York and was very cheap. We were greeted by polite and friendly reception staff, who gave us a free map and pointed out places of interest. We were able to check straight into our room (901 at the end of the hallway) which was much better than expected. I had read on here that rooms are small and cramped, but ours was fine! Double bed, flat screen tv and a dressing table, with a built in double wardrobe and a safe that was free to use and very handy. Bathroom was a decent size with a small bathtub and overhead shower. The shower was lovely and hot with good pressure, bed was comfy and we had an excellent view from our room of the Empire State building, which was an incredible sight to wake up to, especially as we had expected to just have a brick wall or the back of a building as a view! Room was clean and quiet, we slept well.

Breakfast - we only went down twice, as the first two mornings we slept through the breakfast time due to jetlag and late nights out. Don't think we missed much on those days as when we did go down it was pretty basic: bagels, apples, some croissants and danish pastries. Orange juice and tea/coffee. Apparently the coffee wasn't too great, but it was the only place in NYC I got a decent cup of tea, as I was able to put 2 tea bags in the cup. I'd ordered tea a couple of times when we were out and it was more like hot milk, so this was the main advantage of breakfast at the hotel. Very British I know, but it was nice! I think breakfast was the only slight let down of this hotel and really, it wasn't a big deal as there are plenty of places you can go for food right on your doorstep.

The reception staff said hello every time we walked through the lobby and allowed us to store our luggage after we had checked out for the day due to an evening flight, which was nice. The lift is a bit slow and there's only one but we didn't have too much trouble with it. They have a "business centre" where you can access a PC to print out flight confirmations etc. There's a small charge for paper, but again, this was no big deal and handy to have access to this facility. We had wifi in our room which was fine, no problems accessing this and really useful to have.

Overall I think this hotel was an excellent little find in the middle of NYC and a great base to explore the city. It exceeded all of our expectations and we were very happy staying there. If we wanted to stay in a central location again I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. Thanks for having us!

Room Tip: Room 901 had a great view of the Empire State building. Higher rooms probably better for this and m...

Affordable hotel since NYC is a crazy expensive city. Just don't take breakfast. The hall is too small to fit & the food is poor. Elevator is too slow and can take up to an hour to arrive. Very friendly and friendly staff. Hotel in the middle of a Korean district.
