Good:
Rooms are clean, staff is nice, wifi is free, location is great
Cons:
One small elevator, room was INCREDIBLY hot -- even with the heat turned off and windows open (in FEBRUARY), breakfast is lacking (and a $10 charge if you wanted to bring it to your room), our room phones weren't working.
For a one-night crash pad, it was fine, and the price was right.

My mother and I stayed at Stanford Hotel for 5 nights. Arrived at 9am and got a complementary early check in. Staff was always willing to help. The room (twin) was spacios, confortable and very clean. I'll definately stay there again.

I have stayed to the hotel for six nights in January 2013!

advantages:

1)Good location(almost next to the Empire State Bulding and 10min walking from Madison Square Garden).
2) The rooms are cleana and decent size.
3)There is free wifi.
4) There is a locker room just in case that you want to leave your luggage.
5) The staff was friendly and helpful!

Disdavantages:

1)The rooms need a refurb especially the carpet looks too old!
2)Free breakfast is bagels, muffins, and bruised apples, and you have to wait in a long line like in the army!!! Is this is continental breakfast??
3) Be patient with the single elevator!!!
4) You pay more of what you get!!

If I go back to NYC again, probably I would stay there again.

Room Tip: Choose the rooms that the no ends to 1 e.g 901 or 801 etc...!

We stayed here just before Christmas and have done so in the past. The location is great, very close to Penn Station, however, I have noticed that each year we stay, the place gets more and more rundown. The rooms need a refurb, and they need to figure out how to control the heating as our room was very stuffy and hot....heat constantly running even when thermostat was turned off. Opening the window did not help either as our window faced a steam pipe of some sort. Front desk could not help. The rooms are clean however and decent size.

Overall the cost of the place was higher than other larger hotels in the area. A single elevator makes trying to leave a difficult task, especially in check-out times. Free breakfast is bagels, muffins, and bruised apples, and a wait in a long line.

We will not stay here again and we would recommend to others to not stay here unless you have limited choices and do not mind paying alot for what essentially is a glorified hostel.

I stayed in this hotel due to being displaced from super storm Sandy. I'm a New Yorker and familiar with all of the city already so nothing really surprised me much about the area. The rooms are decent size, there is only one elevator, and the breakfast is simple. What I enjoyed is that there is free WiFi, the staff are very friendly, and if you love to shop then you are in the right place. I would recommend this hotel to anyone that is not from NYC.

NYC is never "cheap" but this older, refurbished hotel provided a great room, a modest continental breakfast and GREAT location. Be patient with the single elevator. Staff are polite and accommodating.

Stayed here for a few nights after hanksgiving. While that is a peak time the prices were very much over charged for what you get.
Doorman never available.
They offer a Free breakfast which only consist of apples, 1 juice and three boring not fresh pasties. So no real savings or deal here. One morning I anted to take up an apple and a tini muffin to my room and was told by the guy in the restaraunt I had to eat there and couldn't take it to my room. No reason for this ridiculous request at all.
Hotel is not in Times Square as they say, it's more of a 20 minute walk
Rooms were nicely decorated and the baths were up dated, however the lobby was very cold and not inviting and needs updating.
rooms were either very hot or very cold.
