“An Amazing Hotel!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 3, 2013 via mobile

Arrived at the Affinia and was amazed from the grand lobby. The staff couldn't be more helpful with anything you asked them. The rooms were large and modernly decorated and surprise of a kitchen with a hob and microwave oven! Cannot fault the location of this hotel with Macy's down the avenue and Maddison square gardens opposite, it is a spectacular hotel! Breakfast catered everyone's needs from a full English to croissants and cereal. Overall I would happily go back and stay there.

We booked into this hotel due to its convenient location across from Penn Station and that did not disappoint. Also, we liked the look of the lobby when we walked in. However, the number of people in the lobby should have given us a clue - the wifi was free there but expensive in the room. Ah, the room. It was large - and claustrophobic. We were unable to open the blinds covering the small windows as they looked directly into the windows of the buildings surrounding us. The bathroom was minute and it was not possible to raise an arm without hitting either walls or curtain - and I am a small person. It was such a disappointing experience for us as we were there for four nights. Reading other reviews it is obvious that there are other more suitable rooms but not this one. The free wine in the lobby each evening was a definite plus and it would have been better if you could find somewhere to sit in the lobby. However, the space was already taken up with those seeking free wifi.

Dear Ibunols,

Thank you for letting us know about your recent stay. I was disappointed to read that your stay was less than optimal. Our team does its best to accommodate our guests into a room type that works for them. We do have a lot of room options and hopefully you'll give us the opportunity to find a better room type for your next NYC visit.

My sister and I stayed for 2 weeks in June 2013. We were in a twin share apartment. The room was a good size. Everyone working at the hotel was friendly. Hotel is across from Penn Station, easy walk (15-20 min) to Time Square. Could do with double glaze windows from the constant sirens that were passing by hotel, this was not a deal breaker for me. We would definitely stay again.

convenient to Penn station. centrally located. nice rooms. My first vist was a small but adequate room. My second visit I actually had a terrace with enough room for a full size table and 4 chairs. liked that room alot!. prices are competetive.

Wouldn't recommend against staying here but be sure you don't pay too much for your room. A number of reviewers experienced difficulties at check in and that's where our experience started. We arrived at 4pm to find out our size of room wasn't available yet but there was one left which they'd be able to give to us as long as we could wait until 7pm! (we noticed several other guests waiting in the lobby with their luggage for rooms that weren't ready) On pressing a bit we were given temporary use of a smaller suite and compensated for our difficulties with free wifi (I still don't understand why this isn't universal) and complementary breakfast for the duration of our stay. We went off to the night session at US Open and returned to find our bags had indeed been moved to the new room so I'd say they passed a critical test, thus earning a higher rating. From then on our stay was good. Overall, we thought the hotel was decent value for money but a lot of the rates advertised are too high for what you get here. The recent renovation was OK but this isn't a fully modernized 4 star hotel. Even though we were on the 24th floor a lot of street noise came in through the AC window unit. Location is fabulous for sure.

Room Tip: Go high for sure and see if you can get a room not facing the street. This would be a room on the s...

Dear CRMrules,

Thank you for the candid review. I was disappointed to read that you had some difficulty at check-in. However, I am glad that we were able to pass your test and that you were able to get into a room early so you could enjoy the US Open. I hope you give us another chance to make your next stay even better.

Stay at this hotel was excellent. We arrived early expecting to check luggage and go and luckily enough they had a room available for us (not our room, but still something). Cleaning staff very nice, front desk nice. Good price through TravelZoo. Not a particularly good view as we got a room early but good for the price.
