“Great location - but lounge / lobby bar are only ok”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 21, 2013

The Renaissance is one of the most conveniently located hotels in the Times Square area. It is very accessible to all subway lines and an easy walk to Rockefeller Center and other mid-town attractions. Rooms are nicely sized for a hotel in NYC. However, the lounge / lobby bars are somewhat lackluster and small. Go to the lobby bar in the Marriott Marquis for a nice view of Times Square.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on a high floor for the best views of Times Square.

Stayed in this hotel a few weeks ago for the first time. LOVED it! It was a girls trip for 2 nights to pitter around in NYC. The location to all attractions is optimal! The little lounge/restaurant overlooking times square was spectacular. The Room overlooking Broadway was spacious and immaculate! The service was friendly all around! It was a bit crowded upon check in, so we could not get into the room early- but that is to be expected- Christmas time in NYC!!!
I am a huge Marriot fan and this hotel did not disappoint! In fact I had reservations in Residence in for January for a fun visit with the kids and I have changed to this property instead!

Had a great week in NY. Room at Renaissance Times Square was fine - nice linen and lots of towels. Situated in busy part of NY but rooms was surprisingly quiet. Staff were not overly helpful. Breakfast staff seemed like they didn't want to be there. Receptionists not forthcoming with info. Although the hotel is in a great position and in the centre of things I wouldn't go back.

Room Tip: 12th floor didn't hear any noise from Broadway but maybe if you were lower you would.

This hotel probably has the best location in NYC. This is where the ball drops on New Years Eve. Renaissance products are always outstanding and this hotel has excellent staff. I would definitely stay at this hotel again.

3 nights here in the winter chill after 12 days in record breaking Florida temps - we liked the hotel very much - incredibly convenient for Theatre District, spacious room and great bathroom, especially the towels. Only two downsides - a hot buffet that was cold when my wife took it to the table, and the R Bar (a clearly advertised feature of the hotel) was unavailable for two nights because of private functions, and mobbed on the third night - that was disappointing. (and that third night was when the room was at its most expensive!). When we finally got our margaritas, they were salt-less (never offered) and in the wrong type of glass. Will we stay again - depends on price.

Stayed here on business and was impressed by the location, which is in the middle of Times Square - we could see where the ball drops on New Year's Eve. Other than the location, I'm not so sure what's so special about this place.
The rooms were just okay - bare bones really. No more than shampoo, conditioner and soap in the bathrooms, no mini bars (despite what their web site says), and two $8 bottles of Evian water. The bathrobes and slippers were missing in my room, and oddly enough, so was the menu of services book that explains the hotel's amenities. There is no club lounge in the hotel - Elite members are given a key to a continental breakfast.
The bed was very comfortable, blackout shades worked well, and if you forgo the continental breakfast - the $29 breakfast buffet had very fresh fruit and good orange juice. The exercise facility was nice as well.

Room Tip: Definitely try to get a high floor room away from the elevators.

We stayed here recently for 4 nights on Marriott points with a paid upgrade to a 1 BR suite. Awesome staff. Location allows you to walk out the door within steps to shows, restaurants, shops and subway. Leaving all the energy of Times Square you step in the door, take a quick elevator to the second floor lobby and relax. Our room was at the end of a hall on the 22nd floor and was very nice and quiet. Heard some of the nature sounds of Manhattan: horns and sirens, but hey its NYC, not Jackson Hole, and it really wasn't bad at all. Only "problem" was the R Lounge with its world class view of Times Square (really, it's breathtaking) was not available in the evening due to holiday parties, but when we told an employee we were disappointed a great bottle of wine appeared at our door. Just an example of the great service we got here.

Room Tip: Grab a higher floor. Suites are worth the additional cost.
