“Lovely hotel in a great location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 16, 2013

This is quite an expensive hotel, but we was really pleased with our stay. It is in a fantastic location and it is really clean. The service is of excellent quality and the hotel even trusts people with lending umbrellas for the day when it rains. The lobby is lovely and modern and we enjoyed having a quiet drink in the bar lounge over times square, as the view was an amazing experience. We loved the buzz of the area.

This is a very average hotel, nothing terribly wrong with it but nothing special to recommend it, either. Location is fine, close to theaters and a walk to Central Park. Rooms are ok, smallish in line with most NYC hotels. The beds are comfortable and the rest of the appointments of the room fairly standard. Slow channel changing on the flat screen TV. The public areas looked a little 1990s, perhaps even 1980s in the case of the loud carpet in the halls.

One disappointment was the Marriott Elite experience. We had to remind the check-in staff to check for an upgraded room. More seriously, the lounge with the great Times Square view, one of the reasons I'd booked the hotel, was closed for private parties not one, not two but all three nights I was there. It was also closed for similar corporate functions in the am, which was even more disappointing because the executive club breakfast was moved to a small conference room with no window and dreary, dated decor rather than the open, glass-on-3 sides lounge. Not exactly the way to treat your so-called elite customers or encourage repeat stays.

If your looking for a boutique hotel experience right in Times Square this is your hotel . Walking in it's quiet amongst the hustle bustle. Rooms are clean and stylish . We had the view of the M&M building for a great NY experience . The real plus for this hotel was the location . We walked everywhere since it was so central . It was nice coming back to a clean nice quiet hotel !
Thx for a great time NY

If you want to be in the centre of things and have a great room with plenty of space this could well be the place to stay. The entrance is a disappointment and the reception leads up one floor to a lobby which has the R Life Lounge which is terrific with a wonderful view out over Times Square. But the Lounge and indeed the Breakfast Room at the other end of the Lobby is so well airconditioned as to be freezing! Noise from the street is not bad particularly in rooms high up in the building which rises over 25 floors or so above the square. There were a number of events on during our stay when the Lounge and most of the lobby were taken over to the exclusion of the hotel guests and on the day of our departure all the Reception chairs were also removed and departing guests were very much second best. The hotel needs to decide who is important to them! There was no food or drink available to guests arriving or departing and the "fashionistas" had taken over .A disappointing end to an enjoyable stay.

Room Tip: High levels are best

For our first time in New York, we decided to stay in the hub of times square. And in the hub it is ! Even walking out of the hotel at 3 am, you are confronted with people.

At first it overwhelmed us, but after staying for 5 days, we got used to it.

The underground is close and handy. From the hotel, you can go in any direction to the sights either by train or walks. Being there in summer, we found it great to simply walk to the sights to absorb the sights.

We stayed in a king bed room, which was large, comfortable, spacious and tidy. The only negative we had, is that we were on the low level which placed us a floor or two away from the air conditioning units.

For the first night, the humming made me think, I need to ask for a room change, but after that, we got used to it and stayed where we were.

The only funny thing about the hotel is that the foyer is at ground level, requiring you to take a lift to the level which allows you access to the bar, restaurant and rooms, where you have to take another lift. Not too inconvenient but strange.

The bar is brilliant giving you a wonderful view of the square. Had a few Jack Daniels there.

In regards to whether to stay there, yes I would if I have never been in times square before.

Now that I have, I'd probably go around the corner where its a little less crowded, then again, maybe I will return as it is reflective of the flavor of the "big apple".

Room Tip: Ask for high level rooms to get away from the air conditioning humming

The location is great, right on the north end of Times Square, which puts you within walking distance of NYC things to see and do. There is a mod-looking "R Life" lounge that looks south onto Times Square. Very cool view and space, but it was undefined otherwise. We couldn't tell who belonged there, because it was empty most of the time, except for employees.

Check in was easy. We had a standard room

The construction on the street was terribly loud! - and conducted in the middle of the night. I did not ever know that jackhammering at 1:00 A.M. was an actual thing. NEVER occurred to me. Hotel should have provided earplugs to guests for construction on the street in the middle of the night.

I also noticed that our deadbolt did not work. This I discovered when, one morning at 6:00 A.M., another hotel guest In the hallway on our floor was swearing and yelling about drugs! I did call security, but did not see security respond.

Note that parking is $58/day.

We stayed here for 4 nights on the 28th of August and had a great time. Check in took no more than a minute and check out the same. We where a little disappointed not to get a room on a higher floor but the room we had on the 5th floor looking down onto Broadway was superb, it was a good size and the decor was lovely and the king size bed was probably the most comfortable we have slept in and the bathroom was stunning. We did not notice any noise at night and once the curtains where drawn no light could get in, also our cleaning lady done a brilliant job each day so we where very happy. Location wise this hotel couldn't be placed any better, it really is in the center of everything. We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to stay in the times square area.

Room Tip: rooms looking onto Broadway are the best
