The location of the hotel was fantastic, very close to Times Square and the theatres. The staff were very friendly and helpful and couldn't do enough for you. The building and rooms were spotlessly clean although the lobby area was a little dark. Breakfast in a hotel is a bonus in New York and this turned out to be better than we expected with tea, coffee, orange juice, an assortment of cereals and fruit, yoghurt toast, bagels and pastries. Other items were available at a price but this was more than enough for us. We had a room on the front of the hotel which was a little noisy particularly on Saturday night but it didn't really stop us from sleeping as we were pretty tired each night from all the sightseeing. I would certainly recommend this hotel and would definitely stay there again.

Small, boutique hotel, dark hallways and statuary succeed, more or less, in creating a soothing effect. Rooms are quite small -- the overall effect is like being in a superior room on a cruise ship, but was very clean, nicely appointed, and very efficiently designed for the space. Small but well functioning bathroom and an excellent shower. No problems with the air conditioning (it was quite warm in Manhattan during our stay) and no problems with the wi-fi or TV. Safe in room worked perfectly. We had an interior room on the 4th floor, so the view outside our window was of nothing important, but the room was extremely quiet. As an older couple, we found this room and its convenient mid-town location worked perfectly for our stay, but it would be harder to stay here traveling with kids. Had numerous interactions with the staff and all were friendly and helpful. Had a chance to eat at the roof-top restaurant which was packed with locals. We were actually looking for this kind of vibe and were not disappointed. The food was quite good and the bar scene/karaoke night was top notch entertainment. Continental breakfast in the a.m. was standard fare, but eggs and omelets are available for a few dollars more. Would recommend this hotel for couples looking for a convenient, small, boutique setting in mid-town.

This hotel was phenomenal. Our room was small, like all other NY rooms, but very luxe and clean. We had an issue with our shower the first night and had a new room the next day with a complimentary bottle of wine as an apology. I cannot say enough good things about the staff - in particular the men - who were so helpful and friendly. We would stay here again in a heartbeat.

We stayed here for 5 nights on our first visit to NYC. The first thing that hits you is just how dark it is inside, walking in from bright sunshine it is virtually impossible to see your way around. When we arrived at 2pm after travelling for more than 8 hours we were told that our rooms would not be ready until 3pm and given a complimentary coffee in the adjoining bar with a promise to let us know when the rooms were ready. At 3.40, after complaining twice, we were eventually told that our rooms were ready.
We were travelling with another couple of friends and were given rooms 404 and 406 which were very small but extremely quiet. Virtually no clothes hanging space and nowhere to put suitcases so I spent the whole stay with cases against the wall on my side of the bed.
Extremely pleased with the shower, steady flow of hot water and the curtain separating it from the rest of the room did not bother us, we were celebrating our silver wedding anniversary so have no problems with needing privacy!
Weather was very hot for a couple of days and would have liked to have used air con but it was just too noisy to sleep with it clicking on/off all night so would not be good in height of summer.
We didn't eat in the restaurants as there are much better places to eat around Times Sq. We ventured up to the rooftop bar early one evening and were extremely disappointed as this was a top selling point when deciding where to stay. Was told there was nowhere to sit and then charged $75 for 4 drinks. As other reviewers have mentioned residents are not given priority and I was made to feel out of place amongst all the locals drinking up there. Do not go to this hotel believing all the hype about the rooftop bar.
Breakfast is ok for a couple of days but is the same every morning so on day 4 we went out for breakfast as could not face toasted bagels yet again!
On the plus side the hotels location is excellent, just around the corner from the main part of Times Sq and in our rooms it was hard to believe that there was so much hustle and bustle going on around us. The staff we all really friendly and helpful without expecting tips for everything. The beds are extremely comfortable and and hotel has free wifi (although you have to log in every time which did get annoying).

Would I recommend this hotel - yes to younger couples, no to more mature people.
It's location alone makes this hotel desirable and I would stay here again but would request a room away from the rooftop bar to ensure the quiet and tranquility that this hotel advertises.

Room tip: Ask for a room on a middle floor at the side, although the view will be terrible it will be quiet.

Close to Times Square, hotel with contemporary design and comfortable, with a bonus roof top popular with New Yorkers. The rooms are clean and pleasant, with the only downside air conditioning a bit noisy. The staff is very friendly and attentive. A good breakfast and wifi included are more significant. We had a great week at the Sanctuary.
