“New Year 2013 at Sanctuary Hotel New York”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 4, 2013

This was our second stay at Sancturay Hotel in New York City and we did it this year for New Year's Eve! The outside of the hotel is like the entrance to a private club. Upon entering, you are greeted by a wonderful staff at the front desk. The lobby decor is gorgeous. A lit up bar, beautiful fireplace and asian artifacts. The rooms are warm and inviting and everything you could possibly need is right there where you need it. The location is amazing, you are close to Times Square, Radio City, Rockefeller Center and the Theatre District. We will definitely be back and Happy New Year to our friend's at Sancturary Hotel New York.

From my initial phone conversation until the moment I stepped into the taxi to return home my expections of The Sanctuary were far exceeded. The "Sanctuary Sweet" was a perfect accomodation for my step daughter and me - it was contemporary, fun and met every need we had for a restful evening and convenient starting point for a day in the City. The Concierge Service was fantastic in arranging tickets to Radio City for the Christmas show and restaurant recommendations ~ the staff was spot on with the suggestions, especially for breakfast! The rooftop bar was hoot! I love the decor and the staff were continuing the theme with their ski resort dress ~ reminding me of skiing in Aspen! I plan to visit the City again in the Spring and will look forward to seeing the gracious and courteous staff. It certainly is a "sanctuary" amidst the hustle and bustle of a vibrant city ~ looking forward to my next adventure.

The room was OK, an average hotel room in New York and -despite the poor breakfast- I surely recommend this nice hotel. The location is the greatest advantage. However the greatest of all was the (excellent) staff (especially the Manager who gave us advice about restaurants/places to visit/ things to do in New York) who was of help and contribute to oyr fine trip. Thank you again and hope to see you all soon!

The Sanctuary was excellent in every respect. From the minute we arrived it felt like the haven it is intended to be. Perfectly located just moments from Times Square, once inside the hotel is calm, welcoming and relaxing. Every member of staff was unfailingly helpful and friendly, going out of his or her way to accommodate us. We had early access to our room, which was comfortable and spotlessly clean with a great bed. I loved the decor as well but that's personal taste.

We were there over New Year so the staff fully prepped us about the street restrictions (and recommended that we steered well clear of the Times Square area after about midday). They also helped us enormously by letting us store our luggage after we had checked out until 4am the next morning when we had to catch our bus.

The only fault we could think of was that breakfast could have had a few more healthy options (it was mostly bread/bagels). A small point though, as otherwise our stay was fantastic.

In a city like New York the Sanctuary probably doesn't qualify as a luxury hotel but we had an incredibly fun, completely stress free stay there, at a price which was significantly lower than all of the comparable hotels in New York. Highly recommended.

Super location if you want to be close to Times Square.

Nice entrance, lovely dark décor, which I like, room is small but still very comfortable and well laid out for the limited space it has. Very small space for a work desk, no view whatsoever, but still happy with what I had.

There is a very good rooftop bar, I was there in November with some colleagues so was enclosed, and appears to otherwise have been open in warmer periods, but still very nice, with friendly bar-staff.

I must stay, all the staff are great, and willing to try hard to please in a genuine non-scripted fashion. The hotel is pretty tight, so there are no real facilities there, but I wanted to use a gym, and they had free passes to a very nice gymnasium (forget the name) over in Rockefeller centre which is a short distance away.

Would use again.

This is the second time I have stayed at the Sanctuary during 2012. The hotel is perfectly located for a number of activities that visitors would be looking to do of an evening including the Broadway theatres, Rockefeller Center, Lincoln Center and many more.
I am pleased to say that as this was my second visit this year, my expectations of the staff and the hotel have been exceeded. The bedrooms really do provide a sanctuary from the liveliness of the city.
I found all the staff to be helpful during my stay, particularly Julio whom I found to be very engaging. He took the time to ask what my plans would be for the day and contributed to them with local knowledge, a part of his role that he performs with good grace and a genuine charm. If only more people in life were like him.
A breakfast is available at the hotel however I chose not to take advantage of it in favour of seeing what the city has to offer.

There are so many hotels to stay in when visiting the city it is difficult to decide on one, but this hotel delivers what the management set out to achieve and the staff take the time to look after their guests. Quite simply this is a hotel that I will use again in the future and one that I highly recommend to other travellers.

Elegant exterior entryway leads to blessedly quiet, subdued interior with spa-like music to soothe jangled nerves. It was very zen-like. (NOT like a bordello as interpreted by other reviewers) Multiple staff members introduced themselves to us when we checked in at 10 AM, well before the room would be ready. They offered us cups of water, complete with lemon and held our multiple bags to be retrieved later. We sat in front of the lovely gas fireplace which is slightly separated from the rest of the lobby, providing the feeling of a private living room, before venturing out to see the sights according to excellent directions and advice provided by staff. There was some construction going on because the bar area was being relocated but I never heard any annoying noise from it. Yes, the room was small, as is normal in major cities, but perfectly clean and elegant. Our window looked at a wall which I found much better than a window that looks in another window like some hotels. This hotel is what the name implies - a Sanctuary atmosphere. We were on the 2nd floor but didn't hear any street noise because we were at the back of the building. We did hear the thumping of the loud music from the 9th floor lounge but it stopped at about 10:30 PM. If you have a room on a higher floor the noise could be annoying if you go to bed early. There's no set closing time so no predicting when things will quiet down. Complementary continental breakfast was simple but free - compared to $12.95 for the same thing at another hotel we tried the week before. Plenty of room in the dining area. We tried the rooftop lounge which was enclosed and heated for the winter. We could see a bit of Times Square lights from our table. The menu is limited but fine for bite to eat late at night if you don't want to go out to one of the numerous nearby pubs and restaurants,or if you just want drinks and a snack. I was surprised to find out it was a very popular place with the local business crowd, especially mid-week, so consider making a reservation if you plan to eat dinner there. Definitely mention you're a hotel guest to get preferential treatment or to get a table if they say they're full. At least 6 different staff members went out of their way to make us feel welcome and pampered at the Sanctuary so we would absolutely go here again.
