Location as mentioned in many reviews is an instant winner. The size of this establishment is like a small city inside and certainly has the feel and buzz of one too. The elevator system makes this place work well and somewhat of an attraction in itself. The revolving restaurant on floor 48 is a must and a minimum of one drink must be purchased here to take in the magnificent views which takes around an hour to fully revolve. Buffet available which we found reasonable, but the drinks are well overpriced but for the experience worth doing once. To get to the revolving restaurant take elevator to floor 3 and use lifts G or H for non-stop to floor 48 - what a ride!

We upgraded on check-in to a Times Square view room and negotiated a deal of a 4 night upgrade for the price of 3. Pity then it was not reflected on the final bill and Marriott were going to charge the full tariff amount. Quickly sorted and new bill issued, so please check and do not presume your exit bill is correct.

Downside to a hotel of this size is it is always going to feel impersonal, limited interaction with staff as they are just to busy. Check-in is basically a quick registration, swipe of the credit card, room keys given and away you go. Most of the literature regarding all facilities are in your room anyway for your perusal. Likewise checking out is basically a key drop if you have no issues with your bill.

On our final morning we were woken at 05.45 with water pouring from the ceiling, soaking one of the beds and the bathroom ceiling looking as if it was about to collapse as it was sagging under the weight of water from an overflowing bath from the room above and which some idiot decided to check out with the bath left running. Not happy at the time and put a downer on our last day in New York. Maintenance quick to sort out - front desk not so, as it took two phone calls to finally get keys for a new room for the last few hours. New room keys delivered along with vouchers for four free complimentary breakfasts and a reduction agreed with the Duty Manager on our final bill.

Luggage can be left with the Concierge after check out (you are given a coloured number ticket) and when you are ready to leave just hand the ticket to Customer Services at ground level at the desk outside where the Bellboys will locate and bring your luggage to this area for your departure.

As mentioned in title of review - 'Overall not bad' and it certainly wasn't with a slick operation observed at times, sometimes not so (the member of staff in the Business Centre taking a personal cell phone call whilst in conversation with myself arranging transfers back to JFK was just plain rude), but for a first time visit to New York and the choosing of the Marriott Marquis as our accommodation, we felt on departure that overall we were pretty satisfied customers, despite the issue with the water leak in the room. But that was hardly Marriott Marquis fault.

Upon arrival at the hotel, we were greeted with lousy service immediately. Our passenger van was blocked from access into the lobby as according to their security, they had some construction work going on. That didn't seem to be the case when we checked out as our van was allowed access.

When we offloaded our luggage from the van onto the roadside, we had to push a total of 10 luggage into the lobby ourselves, infront of oncoming cars. No one offered to help us and a New Yorker greeted my 8 year old cousin with the F word because he was struggling to push his luggage out of the man's way. This of course, scared the little boy.

Upon reaching the lift lobby, the second nightmare began. Every guest at the lift lobby fought to stay ahead of others in order to enter the lift. We had to miss 3 lifts in order to be able to get into one despite splitting our group up into two.

Check in was perhaps the best part as there was no queue during my arrival. Unfortunately, I had to personally let the receptionist know that I needed help with the luggage which were infront of her before she sent for someone.

The bellhop who helped us was very friendly and did make my day more pleasant though.

The rooms were outdated and amenities were limited. Television screens were not clear and the bathroom was yellowish. The small bottles of shower gel was truly not what I had expected after paying more than S$700. Furthermore, when we requested for extra towels and shower gel, it took them an hour and two calls to bring the items up.

Every morning at 8am, we would be awaken by constant banging on the door. Yes, that was the housekeeper. This is the first time during a hotel stay that I would have to entertain a housekeeper at 8am every morning. She would ask us what time would we be out and if I were to tell her a time that was beyond 10am, she would say that she would not be back and just passed me some shower gel. This meant that no housekeeping for that day.

Breakfast buffet also had limited variety of food and they did not taste good.

I am puzzled at how anyone would contemplate about staying here again because throughout my stay, I was thinking of The Langham, Chicago where I had flown in from. This was double the price of Langham but yet the service provided was something that was not even worth half a star.

I am writing this review because I do not wish for anyone to waste over S$700 per night for 4 nights like my family did for two rooms with such lousy service and old rooms. You deserve much better and an amazing city like New York deserves a better hotel complement.

An extra note, I had travelled to 5 different cities this trip and all wifi was free except for this one despite being the most expensive.

With so many hotel choices in NYC, the task to decide on one for a quick family trip to the city can be daunting. Rest assured that by picking this hotel, you will not regret it. Amazing location and view from many of the rooms, great service on all levels. Walk right out the front door of this hotel into the epicenter of Times Square. Incredible shopping, dining and sightseeing within a minutes walk. We walked to Rockefeller center and took our kids skating and shopping as well. Can't go wrong with this Hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for partial city view. Our room turned out to have a fantastic view of times square without the...

Interesting (think "The Jetsons") older hotel in the middle of Times Square. Close to many of the attractions and a short taxi ride to the rest. Very expensive but the rooms are nice (not amazing). Our room had a great view (27th floor). Not a lot of extras (NO newspapers, complimentary wifi, in room fridge,water..) Towels old and thin. Fitness center was top notch with a great view too. The lounge bar has a great view over Times Square but was only open after 5 pm and always busy so hard to get a table/seat by that window. The View revolving restaurant/bar on the top (48?th floor) is a must do. Takes about an hour to go around, lots of tables by the windows and the cocktail napkins have a "map" to help you identify the buildings/sites.

Room Tip: Need to get a room fairly high up in order to see over/past the other buildings. Anything above 25 w...

Totally loved this hotel. Loved the elevators. Our room was on the 39th floor looking over Times Square. The room was very spacious with two double beds, a love seat, a couple other chairs, and the bathroom was very clean. There was no in-room wi-fi unless you paid extra but there was complimentary wi-fi in the lobby where there was a restaurant and a few stores and a Starbucks with pleanty of seating around the place. This hotel was excellently located for visiting times square or New York in general.

Would definitely stay here again.

Location! Location! Location! This is a great property located right on Times Square. Walking distance from the theater district and Rockefeller center. My family and I spent five days at this hotel and we loved every minute of it. When was the last time you walked out of a hotel and said that was worth every penny?
Only issue is parking and getting your car out of their parking. In the future we will use car service.

Room Tip: Elevators are tricky. Make sure you know which one goes to your floor.

Stayed here for a conference located in the hotel. Very pricey (but most hotels in NYC are). Room was on the 18th floor. Loved the high-tech elevator system where you punch in your desired floor and the system directs you to one of approximately 20 elevators. It was almost always very fast despite high occupancy. The fitness center was one of the best hotel fitness centers I've used. Had the breakfast buffet each morning which was stocked with every possible thing one could want for breakfast with a lot of attention to detail. The room was perfectly nice and surprisingly quiet given the Times Square location. The only downside was the charge for Wifi.

Room Tip: Choose a higher floor for better views and quiet.
