“Fantastic Stay At the Marriott Marquis”
Reviewed September 14, 2012

My third trip to New York and the first time to the Marriott Marquis and what a delight it was, despite a few reservations about the size, it a very large hotel, everything was spot on. The rooms were an excellent size and very comfortatable, the staff all very pleasant and helpful, and it had nice touches, like a Starbuck on the ground level, a decent giftshop, plenty of restaurants, and a theatre. Whilst it does host conventions and can be quite busy, this had no effect on our stay, as the conference rooms were on seperate floors. The lift system was excellent although some found it a bit confusing, but in reality it was pretty simple. On the top two floors they have a rotating resaurant and lounge, and this is spectacular if a bit pricey, but worth a look all the same. Also a great location right in the heart of Broadway & Times Square. An impressive hotel all round.

Room Tip: Even the standard rooms are a great size, but if its your first vist to NY you could upgrade to a Ti...

The location is great. It is a very big hotel but somehow they manage to make you feel special.
Our room had en excellent view over Times Sq and was clean as the rest of the hotel.
The elevators are quick and have a smart way of choosing the right floor, outside the actual elevator! There is a well stocked shop with snacks and souvenirs that also serves some hot food with a great stock. This must be one of NYCs best hotels.

I´ll be back!

Great location. Rooms decent size for New York. Elevators slow but that's the only complaint. Good gym for a hotel. Hotel check in on the 8th floor which is a little weird. Rooms clean and pretty quiet considering you're on top of Times Square.

Just a quick one-night visit to see a show on Broadway. Location of hotel can't be beat. You are right in the middle of everything on Times Square. Easy walk to many good restaurants or bars. No problem with check-in, and friendly service at all times. Asked one of the maids for extra toiletries and it was delivered while I was at dinner. If you can get a decent deal, this is the place to stay.

Just a warning not to subscribe to the Internet ($16.95/day). We could not get a reliable connection in the lobby, concierge lounge, nor guest rooms. In the concierge lounge I sat right underneath the router. One of the staff in the concierge lounge told me that ibahn throughout the hotel was terrible. Luckily we did not pay the Internet fee since free wireless was a gold elite perquisite.

The location of the hotel is fantastic for the theater, but the rooms are beginning to show their age. Most of the staff is friendly, but one of the managers needs a lesson in how to listen to her customers.

My family stayed at the NY Marriott Marquis over Labor Day 2012. This hotel is better than the average hotel in Manhattan. Nice spacious rooms for 3 people, more than adequate bathroom space and descent closet and drawer space for your belongings. It also has all of the normal amenities you would expect....responsive concierge, gym, room service, bar/lounge area that is quite nice and even a Starbucks on ground floor.
But this is no 5 star "knock your socks off" Marriott. It is a 4 star at best. In fact, this Marriott is typically priced higher than the courtyard at 114 E 40th, as well as the Sheraton on west 40th.
We booked this Marriott for the location and it's the location that drives up the price. As previous reviews state, this Marriott is in the center of it all...Times Square, theatre district, shopping, you name it.
If you prefer a sit down breakfast and/or lunch, i would suggest juniors restaurant across the street (45th). It's moderately priced and has above average eats.
We had a view of NJ on the 20th floor, but i would recommend always asking for the highest floor possible at this hotel because some of the elevators offer great views of the hotel the higher your floor is and the elevators whisk you away very fast.
Parking at this hotel is expensive $50+ per night. If you have to drive, park down the street a few blocks away and you can save $10 to 15 per night over the Marriott's parking.
I took the #7 train from 42nd and Broadway (a few blocks south of the Marriott) out to Queens to watch a few matches at the US open. It was quite convenient for only $2.50 each way on the subway.
The walk from Central Park (south end near the playground) is only 12 to 14 blocks. It's an easy walk. I would also recommend going to the boating area in central park (at 72nd) to watch the toy boats and get some great pictures with central park and the skyline in the background of your pictures!
Have fun in NY!

Room Tip: Higher floor to avoid street noise, but if you don't like noise and crowds, you may not want to...

Pictures in their website are very deceiving, this is not a four start hotel, I give it maybe three stars, but for the price you would think is a nice room and hotel staff is not very friendly at all, as we walked in the room the smell was terrible like old mold, and the smell stayed the same the whole time we stayed there for the two days, the sleeper sofa is like for a kid and it was all beat up!
Even the Starbucks service at the hotel is real bad, got my order wrong twice, didn't get what I requested both times. If you are planning to bring family with kids, this is not definitely the place to stay. For those who are conservative, times square is not the place to stay.
I had stayed at other Marriott hotels and had been 100% satisfied but this time, was not satisfied at all, will not recommend it to any one.
