“Manager refused to let NYPD officer use the ladies room on 9/11/13”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 12, 2013

My daughter's best friend from childhood is now a police officer for the NYPD. Yesterday, on 9/11/13 while detailed at the site of the former World Trade she asked (while in full uniform) to use the ladies room at this hotel. The manager told her no. She had to walk several blocks to use the facilities at another location.

I'd love to hear someone's explanation for this; I cannot begin to imagine what it could be.

Our first hotel in America, it's located at the bottom of Manhattan island, 1 block from ground zero & the freedom tower. The reception staff were efficient and quick, once the booking & credit card had been located that were used to book the rooms, helping us to check in.
Our room was fairly large for 4 adults shaing, we had a decent view of the freedom tower from our window.
The bar downstairs is quiet, although a little dark, with friendly staff. The prices are 'hotel' prices so expect to pay more than usual. The burger restaurant on the other side of the hotel is always bustling.
The beds were comfy and the air-con was essential in the August heat. Walking round the area is great, about 500 metres (approximately) is a bar called O'haras, which is a fireman's bar dedicated to the firemen who lost their lives on September 11th. There's a large array of beers and the staff are really friendly. The Buffalo Chicken wrap is excellent!

I've been coming to the Downtown property for the 8 years. The recent upgrades post-Sandy are lovely. Marriott is my chain of choice. It's fantastic to see something's haven't changed though... Mario Headcock in the Concierge lounge is GOLD. He remembers guests names, theirs likes and dislikes- regardless of how often you visit. His smart approach to guest service is one reason I keep coming back. After a tough day... I look forward to his smile and demeanor to make it all better.

Room Tip: Ask for Riverview. Lady Liberty can be seen from most rooms

I was always afraid when visiting New York I will end up in an old, smelly, windowless room. This is one of the reasons we stayed in the area. There is so much to see here without the crowds. The front desk prints tickets to ground zero memorial every morning for guests. Make sure you walk across to Battery City esplanade at sunset. There is a little market as hotel only offers buffet breakfast and disappointing room service. The staff is very attentive and helpful. It's the perfect location to grab a taxi as they use the West highway to upper Manhattan. About $15 to Penn Station, Columbus Circle without traffic, (otherwise expect at least 25). $22 to the Metropolitan Museum. We took the subway also to Times Square, not easy to find the right stop but people are very helpful; it was a 20-minute ride. You can walk to the Brooklyn Bridge (except we hit heavy rain) and there are many things you can stop to see along the way.

We booked a two double bed room for 3 people but when we checked in we were told we would have to pay $30/night more for the second bed. I showed them my print-out of the reservation with the two beds but the clerk said the two beds were only a request and not confirmed. I told her I thought they were being dis-honest by letting us think we had two beds reserved for the original price especially since I had three people on the reservation. After a discussion the clerk went ahead and gave us the double room with the original price. We were very happy with the room. It was a corner room with large windows on two sides with great views of the water and skyline. It was quite roomy and comfortable. Great location a block from the World Trade Center Memorial.

Room Tip: You might want to call and confirm if you want two beds in your room.

The area around this hotel really "dies down" after about 6:00. Which means its very quiet and not a lot of traffic around which is unusual for NYC. Me and my fiance stayef here on a trip with my mother. We managed just fine in one room as the rooms were pretty spacious. This hotel is many many blocks away from Times Square but there is a subway stop a block over so it was very easy to get from the hotel to Times Square. Also, this hotel is very close to the 911 Memorial as well as Battery Park where one can catch the ferry out to the Statue of Liberty and/or Ellis Island. So its a great hotel if you are just coming to NYC to see the sights. We would definitely stay here again.

Typical full-service Marriott experience...I like knowing what to expect when I travel which is why Marriott is my hotel chain of choice. I was surprised how quiet the room was despite overlooking busy West street. The room was updated, clean and very comfortable. Very very close to ground zero also. There is a Starbucks connected to the lobby, full room service and a couple restaurant options in the hotel itself. Lots of restaurants in the surrounding area as well. Staff and service were helpful as well. Pretty expensive though, easily over $300/night.

Room Tip: Get a high floor away from elevators
