“Good Property, Not My First Choice for Location in the City”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 24, 2013

I stayed at this property for 2 nights on business. I have stayed at various places around Manhattan and this is my least favorite purely based on location. The Marriott property itself is fine. The rooms were spacious by NY standards. I was on the 31st floor facing the Statue of Liberty by the elevator and my room was very quiet (this is very important to me). The service was acceptable. They were doing repairs to the lobby and the Starbucks located in the building was still closed due to Sandy (that was kind of a bummer). This hotel is located on West street right near the Liberty Tower, 9-11 Memorial, and Battery Park. So for these tourist sites, this is a great location. There is not a lot right around the hotel, you do need to walk several blocks for any restaurants, drug stores, or Starbucks. This trip I didn't take the subway so not sure if there were any stations nearby.

I tried a new restaurant called Super Linda that was good. And I always recommend Mesa Grill (Bobby Flay's place). It is one of my favs.

Purely on location alone, I would stay at this location again for business travel but would not be at the top of the list of hotels for fun UNLESS I got a great rate.

Room Tip: Choose a high floor towards the Statue of Liberty for quieter nights sleep.

I'm very pleased to find this hotel in lower Manhattan's Financial District. It was a very nice hotel in a more quiet area of the city. From a friendly welcome at the front desk to the helpful bellmen in the lobby (who we often used for suggestions/directions on the subway, neighborhood pharmacy, etc) to the housekeeping staff to the attendant in the 38th floor concierge floor lounge, we found the staff to be wonderful. Our upper floor room was a good size, upscale and well-appointed, very comfortable (nice beds and linens) and the bathroom was nice and clean (great bath products too). The views of the river and finanicial district were spectacular. The location is close to the World Trade Center and a short walk from Wall Street, Trinity Church and Battery Park, and the #1 train Rector Street subway station is a five minute walk from the hotel (very convenient for getting into the heart of the city). The area is still recovering from Hurricane Sandy damage so a good many stores and restaurants are closed (in fact, the Starbucks in the hotel was being redone). That might be why we got such a good rate for such a nice hotel (avg. $160 a night). As a Marriott/Ritz Carlton Rewards member, we had access to the concierge lounge on the top floor which offered free computer use, a great breakfast (fresh fruit, bacon, eggs, cereals and more) and awesome views, including the Statue of Liberty and New York Harbor. Overall, a great experience and a good find!

Room Tip: Upper floors have a great view!

We enjoyed our time in this hotel. The area is not smack bang in the centre of New York's entertainment district, rather it is closer to Battery Park and the financial district. This means it was more pleasant to walk around and felt a little less intense. We usually stay more uptown but this was a welcome difference. The rooms were a good size. The only let down of this hotel was the room service - the prices did not reflect the quality or portions. The lesson is, when in New York - eat out!

Large room (not typical new york size) and if you face the statue of liberty it is actually quiet. My room had a connecting doors but didn't hear anything from the other rooms. The hotel is right near the World trade Center so there are lots of tourists to dodge when walking to the subway. The room was clean and comfortable. It wasn't cheap but it's downtown NY.

Our room was up on a very high floor, so we had great views. It was a good sized room and decently comfortable, but needed to be cleaned better. There were hand smudge marks all over the bathroom door which really gave me the heebie jeebies.
The lobby was partially under construction and the restaurant was closed because of flooding from Sandy. No big deal, because there is so much else in the area.
When we pulled up, there was no valet out front, and the street was really busy, so we actually circled the block and found a cheaper parking lot next door (turn right before hotel). Parking there was only $40 as compared to $65. The hotel automatically added parking to our bill, and when my husband went downstairs to fix the error, the woman at the front desk was super rude to him and very snotty. It eventually got fixed, but it was the hotel's error, and we were both annoyed at the woman's attitude.
I think there are better places to stay in New York. Last year we stayed at the Brooklyn Bridge Marriott, and I liked that far better!!

Room Tip: high floors have good views

Went to NYC on business, this hotel was perfectly situated for a business trip but might be a bit of a ride to get uptown to see the sights. My room was well appointed and very confortable, the gym was in good order. The staff were excellent and nothing was to much trouble! WIll definteley be back!

I just booked my third stay at this property -- I attend an annual conference there and won't stay anywhere else. The rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable and the staff are very nice. Looking forward to another great dinner in the sports bar there too -- really good, affordable food and great service.
