This was basically an average Marriott in a big city. Located in an older building, the small rooms, slow elevators and narrow hallways hark back to halcyon times in New York. But today they feel outdated. Location and staff were great, breakfast at the M lounge was standard but very decent (except the coffee machine seemed to keep breaking).

The one major issue I had was that the fitness center was closed for renovation. Yet the only sign was after you sought it out on the 32nd floor access elevator, and had to go all the way to the temporary fitness room in the basement, lacking in everything except the basic fitness equipment in a conference room. At the very least, the front desk should have indicated its relocation upon check-in. They should have updated the signs in the elevators and lobby as well, since it's not just a brief closure.

Room tip: No rooms seem to have excellent rooms due to the adjacent tall buildings.

So the hotel is old, and it's NYC, so don't expect huge rooms and a brand new look. Hallways are small, elevators are slow, but the staff is outstanding...helpful, friendly, and accommodating! The club lounge is definitely worth the upgrade, breakfast was very good and is open for a long time. I didn't make evening cocktails last night, but wish I would have because I can't imagine it wasn't equally as good

Room tip: Views are worth the price, also club access would definitely be worth the upgraded room fee

Enjoyed staying here this past weekend. Convenient to Grand Central, Time Square, and shopping. They also had a concierge level open 24/7 for beverages, and daily for breakfast. The only negatives were that their restaurant was open for full service only at dinner and the seeming lack of security. Almost anyone could get on the elevator (my wife was not happy).

Room tip: This was New York City, I had a less expensive, interior room, and was very comfortable. No great view, but very quiet.

My husband and I went to NYC for a long weekend of Baseball Games and shopping. We usually stay in the middle of Times Square where it can be very crowded and just too intimidating. The Marriott East Side was just what we were looking for. The staff was incredible, and extremely helpful. The rooms were great and it was just an overall good experience!
