“Grand Hyatt NYC: Excellent location”
Reviewed March 14, 2013

Huge convention-type hotel but recent remodel makes it very attractive, especially the lobby & as 3/1/13 SMOKE-FREE hotel. Rooms can vary in size due to historic nature of hotel but on the whole, very nice. Junior suites are very spacious but bathrooms tend to be on the small size. Did not hear much exterior noise at all, which in NYC is quite the feat! Lots of elevators so usually not much waiting & while there, hotel was sold out. Loved the club lounge (open 24/7); has nice outdoor area open spring/summer/fall & if your elite status does not gain you entry, worth the extra price! Good food, good beverage selection & wine/alcohol prices were reasonable given that it is NYC. Several decent restaurants to choose from & the small market offf the lobby is actually very good & has take-away food.
We had 2 Jr. Suites booked but as one was on the smoking floor, changed it to king deluxe on the club floor as no other suites available, which was ok but not what we booked. My Jr Suite has a closet so narrow, the hangers hit the sliding doors constantly. Bathroom was very small & had no counter space at all. Rooms were decorated very nicely & beds were super comfortable.

Pros: fantastic club lounge, good service, nice rooms, & great location for both business & touring
Cons: small bathrooms with no counter space

Room Tip: Club floor room is worth the extra cost

This hotel had INCREDIBLE customer service and it's right outside of Grand Central station. There's also some great cheap places to eat right around the corner. Really great place to stay for couples or for a group of friends. The hotel is very chique and my friends and I LOVED their staff. They really treated us well. We took a friend on a surprise birthday trip and they helped us spoil her at no additional charge. They brought up free drinks (of our choice) and a snack while we were out. When she came back to her room, their was card saying we had provided all of it from her!

We also were able to check in to the hotel at noon (normal check-in is 4pm). I would definitely stay here again. Definitely.

I've stayed at this hotel several times over the past 20 years. The location, of course, remains fantastic.

Since I last visited, the hotel has made some decor upgrades that, frankly, annoyed me. There are "touch panel" light switches that are kind of hard to figure out, and I had trouble turning on just one light at a time. In the right lighting (like in the bathroom), you can see the finger prints of many past users on the panels. Gross.

I must not be the only one who found the alarm settings on the fancy speaker next to the bed difficult to figure out, as there was an big set of directions posted on the side. I opted to just use my phone. It was annoying that the speaker-as-clock did not have a digital display, so I also had to use my phone to tell what time it was in the middle of the night.

While the room was generally clean, it was carelessly done, with whiskers from a prior visitor on the shelf above the sink. And why are the only water glasses way outside the bathroom over by the window?

If you're warned at check-in that your room will be near the elevators, ask for a different room. While the elevator noise did not bother me, the sound of people talking loudly while waiting for elevators or saying goodnight in the middle of the night was very annoying.

Other than that, no complaints :)

Room Tip: Refuse a room located near the elevators.

My husband and I stayed at the Grand Hyatt upon arriving into NYC after a long flight from Hawaii and couldn't have been more grateful. We arrived early in the morning, so our room wasn't ready yet, but we were able to freshen up and eat a hearty (and delicious) breakfast with coffee up in the Grand Club Lounge. It was incredibly welcoming and so convenient for business travelers - papers, free WiFi connectivity, etc.

Once we checked into our room, we were instantly impressed. The rooms are big for NYC standards and come with an extremely comfy bed, soft robes, and romantic lighting and decor. We were visiting during a snowstorm and it was a perfect place to warm up on a cold night.

The staff was very accommodating and friendly and the in-room service was exceptional... You even get chocolates on you pillow at night - What's not to love??!!?

The location was also FABULOUS. We were visiting family in the city and found the Grand Hyatt to be close to everything. Combine that with it's sleek interior and lobby and you have yourself the perfect NYC getaway!

I would highly recommend the Grand Hyatt NYC to anyone visiting the city - You won't regret it!

Room Tip: High floor

This hotel is right next door to Grand Central terminal. This make it convenient to go anywhere in the city. Also many of the typical tourist attractions are whithin a few blocks walk. We had a king room with a view of grand central. It was a large room for ny standards. Very modern style. Convenient market in the lobby. We had a great time. The valet parking is a bit pricey and when everyone is checking out at the same time the drivers get backed up.

Our room was large, clean and comfortable. The bathroom is very small and with no fan it smelled a bit and seemed humid. The beds are comfortable and having a window that opens is very nice.
The doormen are so friendly and helpful as are all the staff.

Room Tip: ask for a room away from the many elevators

Staff very pleasant. Rooms spacious (especially for NYC), clean, comfortable, well-appointed, nicely decorated. Bed was very comfortable as well. You can't beat the location, right next to Grand Central Station, right in Midtown. Hotel restaurant also very good for dinner. Would happily stay here again.
