Grand Hyatt was the "official" hotel for US Open 2011 but sadly they were not prepared for the USTA members or tennis fans. The hotel is undergoing renovations which means the restaurant is closed, there is scaffolding, plastic sheeting, dust, and debris everywhere, and noise, lots of noise.
+ Easy access to USTA events and US Open shuttle ($20 per person per day)
+ Good location near Grand Central terminal... not too far away from anything.
+ Clean room (except shower - see below).
- Renovations = chaos, noise, & filth
- Disgusting shower a breeding ground for biohazards and unsafe due to broken and chipped shower floor.
- Rooms small, even by NYC standards, and electronics (lights, TV, radio) not working properly.
- No on-site dining options... some snacks available at the bar or in-hotel store.
Overall: I would not recommend this hotel unless you needed to stay next to Grand Central station or it was for a conference or event like the US Open... even then it may be better to stay elsewhere and spend your time and money on a transportation solution for a more enjoyable overall trip to NYC. There are so many better hotels within a 2-3 block radius.More
